Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The candidate successfully covers all bullet points required by the task prompt. The letter begins by explaining the desire to reduce working hours to pursue part-time studies. It clearly specifies the requested schedule, noting available morning shifts and desired days off, and details how the supply chain course will benefit the employer by improving job skills and fulfilling company demands for supervisors. The tone is semi-formal and appropriate for a workplace communication. While some ideas like the weak points in software are slightly underdeveloped, the overall response effectively addresses the prompt requirements, matching the standard for Band 6.5 or a solid Band 6.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear beginning and sign-off, although paragraphing is somewhat inconsistent. The student uses basic cohesive devices such as 'addtionaly', 'thereby', and 'Above all', though some links are either misspelled or slightly unnatural. Referencing and logical progression are generally maintained throughout the text, enabling the reader to follow the writer's schedule and rationale without major difficulty. However, sentence-to-sentence transitions could be smoother and more precise to attain a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common lexical items related to business and education, such as 'supply chain course', 'experties', and 'prominantely'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors, including 'efficentely', 'addtionaly', 'appericate', 'tomavoid', and 'shifrs', which indicate a limited control over spelling and word formation. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score. Using more precise synonyms and checking spelling would significantly enhance the quality of writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though complex structures often contain grammatical errors or awkward phrasing, such as 'I trust you find my letter well' and 'which we need prominantely in any raise.' Punctuation is occasionally faulty, particularly with run-on sentences and missing commas around introductory clauses. Errors in prepositions and verb forms, such as 'work in any days' instead of 'on any days', are frequent. Nevertheless, basic communication is maintained, and the reader can easily grasp the intended meaning.
