Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover all parts of the prompt, including the reason for reducing hours, the specific hours requested, and the benefits to the employer. However, the development of these ideas is very limited and repetitive. For instance, the student states 'study is also important in my life' and 'you get more study you have a lot of experince', but these points are under-developed and lack clarity. The proposed working hours ('at least four hours') are vague and difficult to interpret accurately in a professional context. Because the ideas are underdeveloped and the tone is overly informal and repetitive, this performance aligns most closely with Band 4.5 or Band 5.0 for Task Achievement, reflecting a partial attempt at addressing the bullet points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The letter lacks a clear logical progression and suffers from significant issues with cohesion and paragraphing. The response is divided into only two short paragraphs, and sentences within them are strung together improperly using repetitive conjunctions like 'because'. For example, the sentence 'explain my boss to reduse my working hours. because study is also important in my life. because you get more study...' disrupts the flow of information. There is an absence of appropriate cohesive devices, and referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought. Overall, the organizational structure is quite weak, fitting the descriptors for Band 4.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
Vocabulary usage is very basic, repetitive, and heavily strained. The student repeatedly relies on simple words like 'study', 'work', 'more', and 'life' without showing flexibility or control. There are numerous word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'working hours reducein', 'reducein order', 'this experince is more easy from your work', and 'benifit your employer life'. Spelling mistakes are frequent, including 'reduse', 'experince', 'suydy', 'complate', 'benifit', and 'menow'. Because the vocabulary is limited and errors frequently cause strain for the reader, the lexical resource is characteristic of Band 4.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of poorly structured simple sentences and heavily flawed attempts at complex clauses. There is a complete lack of control over basic punctuation and sentence boundaries, leading to run-on sentences and sentence fragments (e.g., 'explain my boss to reduse my working hours. because study is also important in my life.'). Grammatical errors are pervasive throughout the text, including tense issues, missing subjects, incorrect prepositions, and faulty verb forms like 'study is change my whole life'. These frequent errors severely impede communication and distort meaning, placing the performance firmly in Band 4.0.
