Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully covers all the bullet points outlined in the prompt. You clearly explain the reason for wanting to reduce your hours by mentioning your enrollment in a part-time online IT course. You also state the specific hours you would like to work, which are in the morning between 5 am and 4 pm, and you attempt to describe how your studies would benefit your employer by offering to create free templates for business advertising. However, some of your ideas lack clarity and full development, particularly the benefit to your employer, which is somewhat briefly and awkwardly explained. Because you addressed all requirements of the task, you have earned a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical letter format with an appropriate greeting and sign-off. You attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'In addition to it', and 'As a result', although some links are used rather mechanically or incorrectly, such as starting sentences with 'As' or 'Due to which'. Paragraphing is used to separate your points, though some paragraphs are quite short and choppy. Referencing is generally clear, but awkward phrasing sometimes makes the logical progression between sentences a bit bumpy. These features place your coherence and cohesion at a Band 6.0 level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words related to work and study such as 'enrolled', 'schedule', 'availability', and 'digital platforms'. However, there are notable word-choice and collocation errors that hinder precision, such as writing 'did not capable attend' instead of 'am not capable of attending', and 'complete to basic daily requirements' instead of 'meet basic daily requirements'. You also make spelling and phrasing slips. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict your score to a Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but your writing contains frequent grammatical errors and awkward structures. Examples of errors include 'online IT course, which will start next week in the evening time', 'as my class have start evening', and 'if could you possible make schedule'. Sentences like 'Unfortunately, I did not capable attend evening class' show severe structural inaccuracies. While your basic meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of grammatical mistakes means that your control over complex structures is limited, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptors.
