Dear Manager,
The purpose of my writing today is to request a reduction in my working hours as I have recentely decided to begin part time studies in business management. I believe this course will help me develop new skills and improve my knowledge, but I will need some time each week to attend classes and complete my assignments.
If possible, I would like to work from Monday to Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This schedule would allow me to balance my work responsibilities with my studies while contributing effectively to the team.
Moreover, I also belive that my studies would benefit the company. I would gain useful knowledge in areas such as management, communication and problem solving, which I could apply to my current role. In addition, I would be happy to share any revelant knolwedge or skills with my colleagues.
I would appreciate it if you could consider my request. Thank you for understanding, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours Sincerely,
Srushti Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task prompt in a clear and appropriate tone. You clearly explain why you wish to reduce your working hours due to starting part-time studies in business management, and you provide a specific, practical schedule of working hours from Monday to Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Furthermore, you effectively describe how these studies will benefit your employer by allowing you to apply newly gained knowledge in areas like communication and problem-solving directly to your current role. The ideas are well extended and supported throughout the letter, fulfilling all bullet points comprehensively and maintaining a clear, polite position from beginning to end.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 8.0
The letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Ideas are logically sequenced across well-defined paragraphs, with each paragraph serving a distinct purpose: introduction and reason, proposed schedule, professional benefits, and conclusion. You use cohesive devices effectively, such as 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'In addition', to link your ideas smoothly. Referencing and paragraphing are managed sufficiently and appropriately for a formal letter format, ensuring the message flows naturally and is very easy for the reader to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate and sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common functional phrases such as 'balance my work responsibilities' and 'contributing effectively to the team'. However, there are a few minor spelling and word-choice slips, such as 'recentely' instead of 'recently', 'belive' instead of 'believe', and 'revelant knolwedge' instead of 'relevant knowledge'. These minor errors do not impede communication, but eliminating them and incorporating a slightly wider variety of precise academic or professional vocabulary would elevate your lexical score further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.5
The response features a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, showcasing frequent error-free sentences. You demonstrate good control over sentence boundaries, verb forms, and punctuation. For example, complex structures such as 'I believe this course will help me develop new skills...' and 'This schedule would allow me to balance my work responsibilities...' are handled accurately. There are very few grammatical errors, and punctuation throughout the salutation and sign-off is correctly formatted, showing solid overall control of the grammatical range required.
