Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, successfully covering why you want to reduce hours, specifying the exact days you wish to work, and describing how your studies benefit your employer. However, some bullet points are more fully developed than others. For example, the explanation regarding the benefits of your studies, mentioning that your course contains 'vounteer work which helps to manage the busy time and provide better customer service', is somewhat vague and under-developed compared to the clear schedule details. To reach a higher level, all parts of the prompt need to be extended with fully supported, clear, and logical ideas without any lack of clarity.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure appropriate for a workplace request, beginning with a clear opening salutation and concluding with a formal sign-off. Paragraphing is used to separate the main points, such as the reason for writing, the proposed schedule, and the closing remarks. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen in transitions like 'At last, I hope you would understand', which feels slightly unnatural, and referencing issues such as 'on this days' where pronoun and reference management could be smoother. Improving the flexibility and natural flow of cohesive devices would elevate the organisation of the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task and successfully communicates your message, but the range is limited. There are several spelling and word-choice errors that occur, such as writing 'oder' instead of 'order', 'assignmet' instead of 'assignments', 'accoding' instead of 'according', and 'vounteer' instead of 'volunteer'. Furthermore, phrases like 'tell you this at last moment' are a bit simplistic for a formal letter. While these errors and minor inaccuracies do not impede overall communication, reducing these lexical slips and incorporating more precise, less common vocabulary with greater control of collocation would improve this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over sentence structure. However, there are notable grammatical errors and awkward phrasings present, such as 'I am writing to request regarding the reduction' (incorrect prepositional pattern), 'I have my classes three days of a week', and 'Because all other I have my classes' (fragmented and ungrammatical clause structure). Punctuation and article usage also show occasional inaccuracies, such as missing articles before nouns like 'University'. These errors occur throughout the text, though they rarely impede the reader's understanding. A wider and more accurate control of complex grammatical structures is needed to progress further.
