Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear David,
I hope this letter finds you well.
I am writing this to you because I want to reduce my working hours, so I can take a part-time AI course.
I have tried to learn AI from my own by using some Youtube lactures, but it does not help me. I have checked different courses locally and found some are offered nearby but issue is they clashes with our office hours, that is the reason I want to reduce my working hours temporarily.
The class is from 10am to 12pm and after that it will take almost 30 mins to reach the office. That is why I want to work from 1PM to 5PM.
The duration of this course is two months and after that I can become full-time like before. After this course, I will have strong understanding of AI tools and APIs available in the market, and I can easily integrate different LLMs in our projects. We have received several requests to integrate AI in our Healthcare Solution, I will implement that on the first hand, which will help to engage more clients for the company.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Umer Nazeer

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You successfully address all parts of the prompt, establishing a clear purpose and position throughout the letter. You explain why you want to reduce your working hours to study artificial intelligence, specify the exact hours you would like to work from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and describe how your new skills will benefit your employer by helping to integrate LLMs into current healthcare projects. All bullet points are covered, and your ideas are extended and supported effectively, such as detailing how the class schedule requires a thirty-minute commute. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise or lean on repetitive explanations in the second paragraph regarding your self-learning attempts. To reach a higher level, you could refine the depth of your arguments and ensure every supporting detail adds unique value without unnecessary repetition.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from your initial request to your scheduling details and the ultimate benefits for your boss. You use appropriate paragraphing to separate your introduction, reasons, schedule details, company benefits, and sign-off. Cohesive devices are used adequately overall, but referencing and transitions can occasionally feel a bit mechanical or abrupt, such as the transition from discussing your YouTube lectures to the local course conflicts. To move into the higher bands, you would need to demonstrate more flexible and sophisticated use of cohesive devices, ensuring seamless transitions between sentences and paragraphs while maintaining impeccable logical progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common and topic-specific terms such as 'integrate', 'APIs', and 'Healthcare Solution'. However, there are some noticeable vocabulary choices, word forms, and spelling slips that prevent a higher score, such as writing 'from my own by using some Youtube lactures' instead of 'on my own' and 'lectures', and stating 'issue is they clashes' rather than 'clash'. While these errors do not impede communication and the meaning remains clear, achieving a higher band requires greater precision in word choice, flawless spelling, and more natural collocations when discussing professional and academic topics.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a satisfactory mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over your core narrative and successfully structuring conditional or multi-clause sentences like 'We have received several requests to integrate AI in our Healthcare Solution, I will implement that on the first hand...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles (e.g., 'that is reason' instead of 'that is the reason'), preposition errors (e.g., 'from my own'), and comma splices in compound statements. These errors rarely impede communication, but they place your grammar firmly in this band. To reach the next level, you should increase your repertoire of error-free complex structures and pay closer attention to articles, prepositions within grammatical patterns, and punctuation boundaries.
