Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr.Thomas,
I am writing this email requesting for reducing my working hours due to my enrolment in android developing course.
Firstly, I would prefer to work part time. This is because I want to boost my knowledge in Android. As a result, I am lacking in code and how to research using AI tools.
Secondly, the classes are starting from 3:30pm in the weekdays. Therefore I am able to work from 9am-2pm.
Finally, If I complete this program, this will help to promote our google application and update more features on it. furthermore, this will enhance the customer attraction and we don't need to rely on third party contacts.
To sum up, please grant my changing hours for the period of a month.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Fathima Bushra.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by explaining why you want to reduce your working hours, stating the preferred hours, and describing the benefits to the employer. However, some ideas are under-developed or lack clarity, such as the vague explanation that you are "lacking in code". Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 129 words, falling short of the 150-word minimum. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more specific details and ensure the full word count is met.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, moving logically from the purpose of the email to your preferred hours and the benefits for the company. Cohesive devices such as "Firstly", "Secondly", and "Finally" are used to structure the points, though referencing and transition are at times a bit mechanical, which reflects a half-band achievement bridging basic organization to clear progression. To achieve a higher band, transitions should flow more naturally without relying heavily on formulaic sequencing words.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, conveying the main points about your request. You attempt some less common vocabulary such as "enrolment", "promote", and "enhance", but there are noticeable errors in word choice and phrasing, such as "requesting for reducing" instead of 'requesting a reduction in' and "customer attraction" instead of 'customer engagement'. These lexical slips and awkward collocations do not heavily impede communication, but they restrict the score to this band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
There is a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms attempted, such as in the conditional structure "If I complete this program, this will help...". You demonstrate a reasonable control of basic tenses, but there are several errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ("in android developing course"), incorrect prepositions ("starting from 3:30pm in the weekdays"), and awkward phrasing ("grant my changing hours"). These errors rarely impede communication, but they prevent the attainment of a higher grammatical score.
