Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the main purpose of the letter, which is to request reduced working hours for part-time studies, but the coverage is partial and heavily constrained by limited development. While you mention why you want to reduce your hours, such as needing time for exams, your explanation of the specific hours you wish to work is repetitive and confusing, mentioning different times like eight to six and six to nine. Additionally, the description of how your studies would benefit your employer is extremely limited and vague, stating simply that it makes a better lifestyle without clearly connecting your academic progress to workplace advantages. To reach a higher level, every bullet point in the prompt needs to be fully expanded with clear, logical details and realistic professional justifications.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The letter shows a basic attempt at organisation, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas, placing the response in the lower bands. Although you use paragraph breaks, the internal structure of each paragraph is disjointed and difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are used repetitively and often inaccurately, particularly the excessive use of phrases like 'so that' and 'because' to link unrelated clauses. Reference words and pronoun use are also weak, making it hard for the reader to follow the connections between your reasons, your proposed hours, and the benefits to your employer. To improve cohesion, you need to use a wider variety of accurate linking words and ensure that each paragraph builds logically on the previous one.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used throughout the letter is limited and basic, restricting your ability to express your ideas precisely. There are numerous noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, such as writing 'lettes' for letter, 'contarte' for concentrate, and 'faitherfully' for faithfully. You also rely heavily on repetitive phrasing, using simple terms like 'study', 'working hours', and 'benefit' multiple times without attempting more sophisticated or natural alternatives. To achieve a higher score, you need to expand your working vocabulary, learn correct word forms for different parts of speech, and pay closer attention to standard spelling conventions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mainly of simple structures and frequent attempts at complex sentences that are heavily flawed. There are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and sentence construction, such as missing articles, incorrect verb tenses, and sentence fragments like 'next week my exam to i have proper doinh my study.' These errors frequently impede communication and place a heavy strain on the reader. Punctuation is also used incorrectly, with periods placed randomly within sentences rather than at their conclusions. To improve your grammar score, you must focus on constructing complete, grammatically sound sentences and reducing basic errors in verb forms and agreement.
