Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, establishing a clear purpose and position from the start. You have covered all three bullet points: explaining the desire to reduce hours for part-time studies, specifying the exact days and hours requested (reducing from 40 to 30 hours per week by taking Fridays and Saturdays off), and describing how the business management studies will benefit the employer. However, the development of ideas leans towards being slightly repetitive, particularly when discussing the benefits to the company in the final paragraph. To reach a higher band, the ideas could be extended with more specific examples of how the new skills will be applied in the workplace, moving beyond general statements about management and accounting.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter demonstrates a clear overall arrangement with paragraphs dedicated to separate points, fulfilling the basic requirements of the task. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, moving from the request itself to the scheduling details and finally the benefits for the employer. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover' and 'Hence', though referencing is at times mechanical or overly simplistic ('this study', 'this part-time studies'). Paragraphing is utilised adequately to structure the message, but transitional phrases between sentences could be more varied and natural to achieve a smoother flow and bridge the gap to the next level of cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, providing a sufficient range to communicate the basic message, but it is limited and marred by noticeable errors in word form, choice, and spelling. Examples of these lexical slips include writing 'reduse' instead of reduce, 'admision' instead of admission, 'collage' instead of college, and 'scheadule' instead of schedule. Additionally, phrasal collocations are sometimes awkward, such as 'request you for reduce' or 'get a studies'. These errors occasionally cause slight hesitation for the reader, which keeps the lexical score constrained. Expanding the range of vocabulary and ensuring accurate spelling of common academic and professional terms would significantly lift this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Your writing displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, including issues with verb patterns and infinitives ('request you for reduce', 'the reasons behind to reduse'), subject-verb agreement ('this study would helps'), articles ('get a good career growth'), and prepositions ('on that days', 'for per week'). Punctuation and capitalisation errors are also present, such as missing spaces after periods and incorrect lowercase letters at the beginning of sentences ('So, I can', 'this study'). These persistent errors require the reader to occasionally decode your meaning.
