Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You successfully cover all parts of the prompt, addressing why you want to reduce your hours, stating your preferred work schedule, and describing how your part-time studies will benefit your employer. Your ideas are relevant and generally clear, fulfilling the requirements of the task. However, your response sits at this band because some ideas are more fully developed than others. For example, while you clearly explain your motivation and schedule, the benefit to the company is somewhat repetitive and under-developed, relying on simple phrasing such as "I can help to our compnay with any problems of business analyst." To reach a higher level, you need to extend and support your ideas with greater precision and depth, offering a more thorough explanation of how your new skills will add value to the workplace.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement with a logical sequence of ideas. You appropriately use paragraphing to separate your introduction, the reasons for your request, your desired hours, workplace benefits, and your closing remarks. Cohesive devices are present, such as "Therefore", "Moreover", and "Hence", which help guide the reader through your letter. However, cohesion is sometimes a bit mechanical, and referencing is not always completely clear. For instance, the transition between paragraphs could be smoother to establish a better overall progression. To achieve a higher band, you should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that relationships between your ideas are seamlessly connected without relying on repetitive transitional patterns.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating your message about changing your working hours. You attempt some less common vocabulary related to your job and studies, such as "Business analyst" and "concentrate". However, your response contains several noticeable lexical and spelling errors that prevent a higher score, such as writing "i" instead of "capital I", misspelling "comapny" and "evrything", and using unnatural phrasing like "classes starts". There are also word choice inaccuracies, such as "decrease my working hours" instead of reducing them, and writing "job timing" instead of working hours. To improve your lexical score, you must use a wider and more precise range of vocabulary while working on accurate spelling and natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting to link your ideas with subordinating and coordinating conjunctions, such as "because" and "if i work for part time then the rest of my time i can devote to the study." There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede communication. For instance, you make tense consistency errors, such as writing "i wanted to decrease" instead of present tense, and "i was trying" instead of present continuous, alongside missing articles like "for part time". Punctuation and capitalization errors are also present throughout the text. To move to a higher band, you need to produce more frequent error-free sentences, maintain consistent verb tenses, and demonstrate better control over complex grammatical structures and article usage.
