Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
Hope you're doing great!
I am writing to request you to reduce my working hours from 9:00 am-7:00 pm to 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm. As for the reason, I have recently enrolled myself in Digital Marketing course near to my home which requires my daily attendance to attend regular practical sessions on time. Unfortunately, they do not offer online classes, so I have to attend offline sessions. I would be available for work daily from 2 to 7 pm right after finishing my everyday classes. I choose this course because our company needed a dedicated professional who could deal and manage our designing and branding department. I stronlgy feel that after completion of this course, I would be able to manage the whole work of department to promote our products and services. As a consequense, the company won't need to bear additional cost of hiring a new personnel.
Thank you in advance for your support and co-operation. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours sicerely,
Alexendar

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three required points: you explain that the course requires in-person attendance, specify a proposed 2 p.m.–7 p.m. schedule, and describe how the qualification could help you manage the design and branding department while avoiding recruitment costs. The request and its purpose are clear. The benefit to the employer is relevant, but it is presented mainly as a future claim; explaining more specifically how your new skills would improve the company’s marketing or product promotion would make this point more fully developed. The reason for choosing these particular hours could also be linked more explicitly to your class timetable. These details would extend the ideas and make the letter more persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear progression: it makes the request, explains the study commitment, gives the proposed working hours, and then outlines a benefit to the company. Connectors such as “As for the reason,” “Unfortunately,” and “As a consequence” help show how the ideas relate, and the closing is appropriate. The main limitation is that the response is presented as one long paragraph, so the request, explanation, and employer benefit are not visually separated. Some links also feel formulaic, particularly “As for the reason.” Use two or three purposeful paragraphs and more natural transitions to make the organisation feel more polished while preserving the clear sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of vocabulary for a workplace request, including “enrolled,” “practical sessions,” “dedicated professional,” and “additional cost.” These choices communicate the situation and intended benefit clearly. However, some collocations and word forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “request you to reduce,” “enrolled myself in,” and “manage our designing and branding department.” There are also spelling errors in “strongly,” “consequence,” and “sincerely,” as well as the name in the sign-off. These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and polish. Aim for more natural professional phrasing and proofread carefully for spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the reason clause “because our company needed…” and the result clause “after completion of this course, I would be able to…”. Most of the message remains understandable, and the proposed schedule is stated clearly. Some grammatical issues remain: “Hope you're doing great!” omits the subject, while “which requires my daily attendance to attend” repeats the same grammatical idea awkwardly. The sentence about being available “right after finishing” classes could be expressed more precisely, and the time range would be clearer as “from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.” Check sentence construction and punctuation, especially in the opening and longer sentences, to improve accuracy.
