Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mark,
I am writing this letter request to reduce my working hours because I am doing part-time study.
I am Seema Rani. I am working as a cashier in your store. I just started my part-time accountant course from school. I cannot work full-time hours because of classes. My classes timing from 8:00 am to 2:00pm. They give classes four days a week. Unfortunately, I can do only evening shifts from Monday to Thursday. Apart from these days, I have open availaibility.
After completing my course, I can work as a bookkeeper in your company. As you know, our bookkeeper is going to leave company soon. So, I can work on that position. It would be benefit for your store as I already know policy, staff etcetera. You will no need to give me training for a long time. If you willl help me on this matter, I would really appreciate your assistance.
I would like to hearing from you.
Yours Sincerely,
Seema Rani

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three required points and gives a clear reason for the request: your classes run from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. four days a week. You also specify that you can work evening shifts Monday to Thursday and are available at other times, and you explain a relevant benefit by linking your accounting course to the bookkeeper vacancy. These details meet the task well. To make the response more fully developed, state the exact evening hours you are requesting, rather than only saying “evening shifts,” and clarify which days you would work outside Monday to Thursday. The employer benefit is persuasive, but could be extended with a specific example of how your new skills would help the store’s accounts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The information is arranged in a sensible order: you introduce the request, explain your study schedule and availability, then describe the benefit to the employer. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “Unfortunately” and “After completing my course” signal relationships between ideas. However, some connections are abrupt: “I am Seema Rani” repeats information already clear from the sign-off, and “Apart from these days” could refer more precisely to your non-class days. The final request for a reply is also separated from the main discussion without a clear transition. Use more precise referencing and link the request, proposed schedule, and employer benefit more smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the situation, including “part-time study,” “evening shifts,” “bookkeeper,” and “training,” so the main message is understandable. There are also attempts to use workplace language, such as “position” and “policy.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “request to reduce,” “classes timing,” and “it would be benefit.” “Open availability” is also not the natural expression here, and “etcetera” is vague in a formal letter. Spelling errors such as “availiability” reduce accuracy. Build a more reliable range of formal workplace phrases and check spelling and collocations; this would make your meaning more precise and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both short statements and some longer sentences, for example, “I cannot work full-time hours because of classes,” followed by details about the timetable. This gives the response some structural variety, and the intended meaning is generally clear. However, several grammatical errors remain. In “I am writing this letter request,” the sentence structure is incomplete; “My classes timing from…” is missing a verb; and “I would like to hearing from you” uses the wrong verb form. The conditional “If you will help me” is also not formed correctly, while “You will no need” has an inaccurate construction. Practise complete sentence patterns, verb forms after “would like,” and conditional structures to improve control while retaining your clear message.
