Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Hello Ammy,
I hope you are doing well. I wanted to talk about my future plan to take part-time studies with my work.
I am thinking that i need a Master's degree to gain more knowledge about the fashion industry. For that purpose, i have to study at a university as a Part-time Student. As a result of it, I have to cut down my working hours from office.
I is beneficial for me as well as the company, as I will get more knowledge about fashion that helps me to grow in the Company. Moreover, it also leads to the company's growth in Future. I request you to cut my office hours from 9:00am- 5:00 pm to 9:00am-12:00pm so I would get enough time to come to office for work and also to do my study as well.
Hope to hear back from you soon.
Thank you

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you explain that you want a master’s degree to learn more about the fashion industry, request a change from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., and say your studies could support your growth and the company’s growth. The request is clear and relevant. However, the benefit to your employer is asserted rather than explained: specify how the new knowledge could improve your work, contribute to projects, or help the business. The reason for choosing these particular hours could also be clearer, such as linking the afternoon study schedule to your university timetable. These details would develop the ideas more fully and make the letter more persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter follows a generally clear sequence: you introduce your plan, explain your reason, make the request, and close politely. Connectors such as “For that purpose,” “As a result,” and “Moreover” help show relationships between ideas. However, the middle section combines several points in one paragraph, so the reason for studying, the proposed schedule, and the employer’s benefit are not clearly separated. Some linking is also mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “as” and “also.” Organising the explanation, request, and benefit into distinct paragraphs, and using clearer references between them, would make the progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “Master’s degree,” “fashion industry,” “part-time studies,” and “working hours,” so your meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “I request you.” However, some expressions are awkward or imprecise: “cut down my working hours from office” and “come to office for work” do not sound natural in this context. Capitalisation is inconsistent in “i,” “Part-time Student,” “Company,” and “Future.” Choose more idiomatic workplace language and use consistent spelling and capitalisation. A slightly wider range for describing the practical value of your studies would also make the letter more precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple sentences and longer clauses, for example, “I am thinking that i need a Master's degree to gain more knowledge about the fashion industry.” The main message remains understandable, and some sentence patterns are controlled. However, some grammatical errors are noticeable. “I is beneficial” should be “It is beneficial,” and “I have to study at a university as a Part-time Student” would be more naturally expressed with an article and lower-case wording. The sentence beginning “I request you to cut my office hours” also needs a clearer grammatical construction, such as “I would like to request a reduction in my working hours.” Check subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries when revising.
