Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Carolina,

I am writing this letter regarding my working hours which I would like to reduce as I like to study part time.

I have done graduation in physiotherapy and I would like to do master's in physiotherapy, so for the further study I would like to adjust my schedule. Also, these study needs more concentration and hard work though I have to study for longer hours.

I am doing full time work from morning to evening which I want to change until afternoon. Therefore I will have enough time to study untill midnight after work. Additionally, twice in a month I am working on saturdays which I do not want to do work.

Master's of physiotherapy will help you for assessment and most of assessment I can do it, so do not need to travel far. Additionally, In this course I will learn occupational part in which I can assess wheelchair measurement, which is main concern for our company.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

Jinal Prajapati.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three requested points: you explain that you want to pursue a master’s degree, propose changing your full-time schedule to finish in the afternoon, and describe how your studies could help with assessments and wheelchair measurements. The purpose is clear and the details are relevant. However, some points are less fully developed than others. For example, “change until afternoon” does not specify the exact hours you are requesting, and the benefit to the employer would be more convincing if you explained how your new skills would improve the service or save time. The reason for studying is understandable, but could be linked more directly to your career goals. These details would make the request more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces the request, explains your studies, describes the proposed schedule, and then gives benefits to the employer. Paragraph breaks help the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “Therefore” and “Additionally” show relationships between ideas. Some connections are less clear or feel mechanical, however. In the schedule paragraph, the move from finishing in the afternoon to studying “until midnight after work” is difficult to follow, and the Saturday request is added without explaining how it fits the proposed arrangement. The final paragraph also combines two employer benefits in a way that makes their relationship unclear. Use more precise transitions and group related details together to improve progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “master’s in physiotherapy,” “assessment,” “occupational,” and “wheelchair measurement.” This gives the letter an appropriate professional focus, and the intended meaning is generally recoverable. However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably inaccurate or unnatural, such as “done graduation,” “these study,” “do not want to do work,” and “main concern for our company.” These phrases sometimes make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Aim to learn common combinations used in formal workplace requests, and check word forms and spelling, including “Saturdays” and “until.” More precise phrasing would help you explain your qualifications and the practical value of your studies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response includes both simple sentences and attempts at longer structures, for example the sentence beginning “I have done graduation in physiotherapy” and the explanation of how the course could help with assessments. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. Examples include “these study needs,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “most of assessment I can do it,” where the sentence structure and pronoun use are faulty. The phrase “which I want to change until afternoon” also does not express the intended schedule clearly. Review articles, plural forms, agreement, and clause construction. Building accurate sentences around one main idea at a time will make your request easier to understand while allowing you to retain some complex structures.
