Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear John,

I am writing to schedule me as a part-time employee from next month. I am enrolled into an Artificial Intelligent program for six months. This course is an offline course .Therefore, I would have needed to visit the university everyday to attend the classes. My current timetable conflicts with my work schedule.

Presently, I work monday through friday from 9 am to 5 pm. However, my classes will start from 9am to 11am.Thus, I needed your assistance with rescheduling. I would like you to reduce my working hours from 8 hours to 4 hours which would be 1pm to 5pm.

This program will not only offer me numerous benefits but also our organization too. With the help of Artificial Intelligent tools, I can do the digital marketting in professional way. Which will indirectly enhance the efficiency and productivity of team.

I hope you would understand my situation and accommodate me with scheduling.

I look forward to your response.

Yours faithfully,

Manjit Kumar

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you explain that your course conflicts with your current schedule, request a specific 1 p.m.–5 p.m. shift, and describe how AI tools could support the organisation’s digital marketing and team productivity. The request is clear and the letter is appropriately directed to your boss. The benefit to the employer is relevant, though it would be stronger with a more specific example of how your new skills could be applied at work. The reason for studying is also stated, but you could explain briefly why this programme matters to your career or development. Overall, the task is fully covered, with some ideas that could be extended further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall structure: the opening explains the request, the next paragraph gives your current and preferred hours, and the final body paragraph outlines a benefit to the employer. Time markers such as “Presently,” “However,” and “Thus” help show the relationship between the schedule conflict and your proposed solution. The progression is easy to follow, although some links feel mechanical, and the sentence beginning “Which will indirectly…” is not smoothly connected to the preceding idea. Improve cohesion by joining related points more naturally and using clear references—for example, explain directly how the course’s AI skills would improve a particular work task. The closing is appropriate, but the letter could flow more seamlessly between its paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the purpose, and phrases such as “rescheduling,” “efficiency and productivity,” and “accommodate me” communicate the main ideas. You also attempt more specialised language with “Artificial Intelligent program” and “digital marketting,” showing an effort to be precise. However, some word forms and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “schedule me as a part-time employee” does not clearly express a request to reduce hours, and “digital marketting in professional way” needs more natural phrasing. There are also spelling and capitalisation slips, including “marketting” and “monday.” Choose conventional workplace expressions and check spelling and word forms to make your meaning more polished and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “However, my classes will start…” and the conditional-style benefit statement beginning “With the help of…”. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “I am enrolled into” uses an incorrect preposition, and “I would have needed to visit” does not fit the future situation as well as a present or future form. “Which will indirectly enhance…” is a sentence fragment, while “I hope you would understand” has an awkward tense pattern. There are also punctuation and spacing issues around sentence boundaries. Review verb forms, sentence completeness, and punctuation while retaining your attempts at longer structures.
