Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir Muhammad,

I wish you a wonderful day ahead. I am here to request you that kindly reduce my working hours from 9 to 6 hours daily. As you are aware of that fact I have been working in the technical department for 48 hours weekly in our company since last 3 years. However, I decided to get enroll in 3 months part-time course based on AI and advance technology.

Therefore, I would appreciate your efforts if you could allow me to work from 9 AM shart till 3 PM daily so that I can participate in my classes scheduled from 4 PM to 6 PM 5 days a week from next month.

I am of the view, that this course will enhance my working abilities and will enable me to cope with advance AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT ETC. I firmly believe that it will benefit our organzition in numerous ways. Moreover, i will be able to train my working colleagues with additional skills and new AI amodels that I will acquire through this course.

Hopefully, you will reduce daily working hours to enable me to flawlessly participate in my new part-time study plan.

Your Sincerly,

Akram Ullah

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requirements: you explain that you want to enrol in a part-time AI course, request a 9 a.m.–3 p.m. schedule, and describe benefits such as improving your skills and training colleagues. The purpose of the letter is clear, and the proposed hours are specific. This meets the task well, with some evidence of the fuller development expected at the next level. However, the employer benefits are asserted rather than illustrated—for example, you could explain how particular course skills would improve a work process or support the technical department. The reason for studying is also brief. Developing these points with one or two concrete details would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall sequence: request and background, proposed working hours, benefits to the company, and a closing appeal. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and connectors such as “Therefore” and “Moreover” make relationships between ideas visible. At times, however, linking feels mechanical or the reference is unclear. “Therefore” introduces the schedule, although the connection to the preceding sentence could be more direct, while “Hopefully” repeats the request rather than advancing the argument. The opening and closing could also be integrated more naturally into the letter. Use transitions selectively and make each paragraph build on the previous one—for instance, connect the course schedule directly to the requested hours.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for a workplace request, including “part-time course,” “enhance my working abilities,” “cope with” and “train my working colleagues.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the references to AI tools make the subject specific. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision and naturalness, including “shart,” “organzition” and “amodels.” Some expressions are also awkward or overly formal, such as “I wish you a wonderful day ahead” and “I am of the view.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural professional collocations. A concise phrase such as “I am writing to request” would suit the purpose better, while “develop my skills” is more idiomatic than “enhance my working abilities.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause (“so that I can participate in my classes”) and a relative clause (“skills and new AI models that I will acquire”). Most of the message remains understandable, and the request is not obscured. Some grammatical errors persist, however: “I request you that” needs a different construction, “I have been working … since last 3 years” has an inaccurate time expression, and “I decided to get enroll” has an incorrect verb form. There are also issues with articles and sentence punctuation, such as the comma after “view” and the lowercase “i.” Review verb patterns and tense choices, and proofread sentence boundaries and capitalization to improve control.
