Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. Mark,
Hope this finds you well. I am writing this to reduce working hours for my part-time study.
Furthermore, I want to reduce my working hours to upgrade my technical skills in same role which I am working. It is because I am very fascinated to learn advanced software skills with recent changes in the technologies.
Moreover, I would like to work from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. as per Indian standard time because it suits me to manage my study and profession. Additionally, after that I will acquire more information on Artificial intelligence and enhance my competence level.
I can make sure that organization will earn several benefits if I learn these competencies such as automation can save time and able to deliver their projects within deadlines.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Pankaj Dubey

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points: you explain that you want to develop technical skills, specify a proposed schedule of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and describe a possible benefit to the organisation through automation and meeting deadlines. Your purpose is clear throughout, and the ideas are relevant to your role. The explanation of how the studies would benefit your employer is the least developed part: the link between learning about artificial intelligence and delivering projects on time is asserted rather than illustrated. You could strengthen this by giving a specific example of a task or process you could improve. Overall, the response covers the task clearly, though some support remains general.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening request, paragraphs explaining your motivation and preferred hours, a paragraph on employer benefits, and a suitable closing. The sequence is easy to follow, and phrases such as “Furthermore,” “Moreover,” and “Additionally” make the relationships between points visible. However, these transitions are somewhat mechanical, and several paragraphs begin with similar additive linkers. The opening also moves quickly from the request to the reason, while the connection between your study schedule and the proposed working hours could be made more explicit. Use a wider range of linking methods, including pronouns and direct cause-and-effect phrasing, to make the progression feel more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “technical skills,” “advanced software,” “Artificial intelligence,” “automation,” and “deadlines.” These choices communicate your aims and show an attempt to use topic-specific language. Some expressions are imprecise or do not collocate naturally, however, such as “reduce working hours for my part-time study,” “upgrade my technical skills,” and “earn several benefits.” “Competence level” is also less natural in this context than a phrase such as “professional expertise.” These choices do not prevent understanding, but more accurate collocations would make the letter sound more fluent and professional. Focus on natural workplace phrasing as well as topic vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response includes both simple statements and longer structures, for example the sentence beginning “I can make sure that…” and the clause explaining why you want to study. Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. “I am writing this to reduce working hours” needs a clearer construction, such as “I am writing to request a reduction in my working hours.” In “in same role which I am working,” the article and clause structure are not controlled; “in the same role I currently work in” would be clearer. The final benefit sentence also has a faulty structure: “automation can save time and able to deliver” needs a subject and parallel verb form. More careful editing of articles, clauses, and parallel structures would improve accuracy.
