Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to request you to reduce my shceduled hours in terms to study part time.
As mentioned earlier in some meetings, I am going to continue with a communication course from next month. For an effective learning, I would require some extra time for practice. Moreover, it is the in-person classes that would not be time-effective due to travelling.
In order to strick a balance between work and studies, I would appreciate if you would allow me to work in the mornings only for next two months, until my course completion. Nevetheless, I would definitely inform you when I get any dayoff from institution beforehand, for overtime.
Building confidence and language proficiency would transform my personality, both as an individual and administrative. Not only I would be able to communicate better but also would manage all presentation without any supervision. consequently, it would facilitate us with some extra time for other tasks, such as scheduling and data analysis.
Thank your time, and I hope that you would consider my request at your earliest convenience.
Yours faithfully,
Reet Rai

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points and maintain a clear, polite request throughout. The reason for studying is explained through the communication course, the need for practice, and travel to in-person classes; you also specify morning work for the next two months. The benefits to your employer are relevant, particularly improved communication and the ability to handle presentations and administrative tasks. These ideas are extended with some explanation, although the employer benefits are somewhat general, and the offer to work overtime on days off is not fully clear. To strengthen the letter further, explain more specifically how your new skills would support your current duties and clarify the proposed schedule.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce the request, explain your study plans, propose working hours, describe potential benefits, and close politely. Paragraphing helps separate these functions, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “In order to,” and “Not only…but also” show an effort to connect ideas flexibly. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “Nevertheless” does not clearly contrast with the preceding offer, and the sentence about informing your boss when you get a day off is difficult to follow. The transition from personal development to benefits for the employer could also be more explicit. Use connectors only where the relationship is clear and make references such as “it” and “this” unmistakable.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal workplace request, including “communication course,” “language proficiency,” “presentation,” and “data analysis.” Some attempts at more formal or less common wording show ambition, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “in terms to study,” “time-effective,” and “facilitate us with some extra time.” Spelling errors in “shceduled,” “strick,” and “Nevetheless” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your main message, but more natural collocations would make the letter sound more professional. Prioritise familiar, precise expressions over formal-sounding phrases whose meaning or usage is uncertain.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the conditional request “I would appreciate if you would allow me…” and the “Not only…but also” construction. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “For an effective learning” has an article and noun-form problem, while “I would appreciate if” needs a grammatical structure such as “I would appreciate it if.” In “Not only I would be able,” the word order is incorrect after the fronted phrase, and “both as an individual and administrative” lacks parallel structure. There are also punctuation and capitalization slips, including “consequently” after a full stop. Check sentence patterns, parallel phrasing, and capitalization when editing.
