Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing to formally request an adjustment in my working hours due to my part time study program.

I have joined the online AI marketing course which scheduled from 3 pm to 6 pm in the afternoon from Thursday to Saturday. It will last for around two months and due to its timing, I would not be able to stay at office after the afternoon hours.

I was wondering if it would be at possible to offer me part time shifts till the completion of this program. I am available for morning shift from 7 AM to 11 AM everyday accept weekend. I pleased to inform you that this online course would help the company to attain more international customers because of this certification. We can represent our company as a certified AI solutions for marketing and sales corporation to the clients. There is nobody in the company who has AI certification regarding this filed.

I look forward to receiving your response. Kindly let me know if you need to discuss this matter. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours Faithfully

Dany

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The letter clearly addresses all three requested points and maintains a polite, consistent purpose. You explain that the AI marketing course runs from Thursday to Saturday, 3–6 p.m., specify morning availability from 7–11 a.m. on weekdays, and connect the qualification to attracting international customers. The request is also clear: you ask to work reduced hours until the course ends. The employer benefit is relevant, though the claim about representing the company as a certified AI solutions corporation could be explained more precisely—for example, by describing how you would apply the course skills to a particular marketing task. This is a strong, complete response; more specific support for that benefit would make the ideas more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information follows a sensible order: the reason for writing, the course schedule, your proposed hours, and the potential benefit to the company. This makes the letter easy to follow, and the closing is appropriate. Some links between ideas are less smooth, however. The sentence beginning “I was wondering” moves quickly from the request to your availability and then to the employer benefit, so these points would be clearer in separate paragraphs. The phrase “because of this certification” also leaves the connection between the course and gaining customers somewhat implicit. You already have a clear overall progression; more deliberate paragraphing and clearer references would make cohesion more flexible and less dependent on simple sequencing.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a workplace request, including “formally request,” “adjustment,” “part time,” “international customers,” and “time and consideration.” These choices communicate the purpose and maintain a suitably polite tone. There are some inaccurate or unnatural expressions that limit precision: “offer me part time shifts” is less natural than “allow me to work reduced hours,” and “certified AI solutions for marketing and sales corporation” is difficult to interpret. “Filed” is also a spelling error for “field.” Aim for accurate collocations and concise wording, especially when describing the company’s services and the value of your qualification. This would make your vocabulary more precise while preserving the professional tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter includes both simple and more developed sentence forms, such as the explanation of the course schedule and the sentence beginning “I am writing to formally request.” Most meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. For example, “which scheduled” needs a verb (“which is scheduled”), “I pleased to inform you” needs “am,” and “at possible” should be “possible.” The sentence “There is nobody in the company who has AI certification” would be more accurate as “There is nobody in the company who has an AI certification.” Check articles, auxiliary verbs, and sentence boundaries during proofreading. Greater control of these forms, alongside your existing range, would make the letter more consistently accurate.
