Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mr Shetty,

I am writing to request to temporary reduce my working hours from 40 hours to 20 hours per week for an one month. I found a course called Forward Deployed Engineer which runs for a month and start date of the course is 23rd June and last for 22nd July. I would like to learn and develop that skills. Inorder to study and focus on completion of course I am requesting to reduce my working hours.

However, I would like to work on weekends, I am flexible on those two days. I can work any shift even on rush times example from 4pm to 10:30pm. or lunch shift which is 10:00am to 4:00pm.

Moreover, the course which I have chosen it will be benefit for our organisation. The course is intregated with AI module. Aftter completion of course I would help to keep our organisation in a pipe line and intregate AI to our workflow for the smooth transition as well as it will reduce workload for the management and they can focus on other emergency or priority tasks.

I would like to complete this course and contribute those skills to develop our organisation.I would appreciate it if you could consider my request and resloved the working hours so that I can focus on the completion of course.

Kind regards,

Damaraka Polisetty.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three requested points and maintain a clear, polite request throughout. The reason is specific: you explain that the month-long course begins on 23 June and that you want time to focus on completing it. You also propose weekend work and give two possible shifts, while the AI-related benefits to the organisation are relevant and extended through examples such as integrating AI into workflows and reducing management workload. This clear coverage and supporting detail make the response effective. To strengthen it further, clarify the exact arrangement you are requesting: the opening asks for 20 hours weekly, but the weekend paragraph does not state how those shifts would add up to that total. The employer benefit could also be expressed more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce the request and its reason, suggest working hours, explain the benefit to the employer, and close politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish these points, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “I would appreciate it if” make the purpose easy to follow. This is a coherent arrangement, with some flexibility in how the ideas are connected. However, a few links feel mechanical or unclear. “However” does not show a contrast between the course and your weekend availability, and “those two days” requires the reader to infer which days you mean. The final paragraph also repeats the request and contribution already stated. Use more precise references and connect each paragraph directly to the preceding point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “reduce my working hours,” “completion of course,” “AI module,” and “workflow.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and terms such as “rush times” and “priority tasks” show an attempt to be specific. However, noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors limit precision and sometimes make the reader pause: “intregated,” “Aftter,” “pipe line,” and “resloved” are examples. Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “learn and develop that skills” and “keep our organisation in a pipe line.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations—for example, “develop these skills” and “integrate AI into our workflow”—and proofread spelling carefully. This would make your vocabulary more reliable and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the explanation beginning “Inorder to study and focus…” and the sentence describing how the course could benefit the organisation. The overall meaning is generally understandable, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms are noticeable. For example, “request to temporary reduce” needs an infinitive structure such as “request a temporary reduction” or “request to temporarily reduce”; “for an one month” has an article and number problem; and “the course which I have chosen it will be benefit” combines incompatible structures. There are also issues with verb forms in “runs for a month and start date… and last.” Practise building accurate clauses and checking articles, verb agreement, and sentence boundaries, especially in longer sentences.
