Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well.I am currently working at the sales department as an assisting manager. I am writing this letter to address my concern regarding my working hours.
I am woking from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, I want to reduce my hours for work. I am studing for my Master's degree at university. Most of the lectures are scheduled at the online platform. My final exams will be in the next month. To preapare for my examnination, I am requesting you to decrese my working hours.
I have to study at least 8 hours per day. That is why my suggestion is; if you can provide me an opportunity to work till afternoon then that will be really greatful for me.
The course that I am studing now is not only beneficial for me but also vital for my current job position. After completing my degree, I can provide some new ideas, insights and ways to enhance company's overall growth.
I am hoping for a prompt solution to this matter. Thank you for your kind attention to this request.
Your Faithfully,
Shivani Panchal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you explain that your Master’s studies and upcoming exams motivate the request, propose finishing work in the afternoon, and describe how the degree could help you contribute ideas to the company. The purpose is clear and the tone is appropriately respectful. The benefit to your employer, however, is stated quite generally (“new ideas, insights and ways to enhance company's overall growth”), and the proposed schedule is not precise: “work till afternoon” does not specify a start or finish time. To strengthen the letter, give exact hours and connect your studies more specifically to your sales or management responsibilities.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible sequence: you introduce the request, explain your circumstances, suggest a change to your schedule, and then describe a possible benefit to the employer. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and links such as “However,” “That is why,” and “After completing my degree” make the progression easy to follow. Some connections are a little mechanical, and the request is split across several short statements rather than developed smoothly. For example, the exam explanation and the request to reduce hours could be joined more directly. A clearer transition into the proposed schedule, followed by a concise closing request, would make the organisation more fluent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to a workplace request and study, including “working hours,” “Master’s degree,” “lectures,” “beneficial,” and “overall growth.” This is enough to communicate your main points, but several spelling errors and awkward word choices reduce precision: “woking,” “studing,” “preapare,” “examnination,” and “decrese” are noticeable, while “assisting manager” and “greatful” are not natural in context. Some phrases, such as “provide some new ideas,” are also broad. Proofread carefully and choose more precise workplace expressions, such as describing how your qualification will strengthen your management or sales skills. This would make your vocabulary more accurate and flexible.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the conditional request “if you can provide me an opportunity to work till afternoon then…” and the contrast in “not only beneficial for me but also vital for my current job position.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. For example, “I am currently working at the sales department” uses an incorrect preposition, and “if you can provide… then that will…” needs more controlled conditional phrasing and punctuation. There is also a missing space after “well.” in the opening. Aim to produce more consistently accurate complex sentences, and check articles, prepositions, and punctuation before submitting.
