Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks about people visiting well-known places to take photographs without looking at the location, whereas the essay discusses the benefits of youngsters engaging in social/community service. Because the response fails to address the specific task instructions, it cannot be scored higher than a 4.0 for Task Achievement. Furthermore, the response is under the 250-word minimum length requirement, which further impacts the ability to develop ideas relevant to the actual prompt. To improve, you must carefully read the prompt and ensure your arguments directly answer the specific questions asked.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay uses basic paragraphing and some cohesive devices such as 'First is', 'secondly', and 'to conclude'. However, the logical progression is hindered by the fact that the content does not relate to the prompt. The use of linking words is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. While the structure of an introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion is present, the lack of relevance to the task makes the overall coherence weak. To improve, focus on ensuring that each paragraph directly supports the central argument related to the prompt's specific topic.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'endulge' (indulge), 'lesiure' (leisure), 'word' (world), and 'felling onus' (feeling a sense of duty). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to express basic ideas, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. There is also a reliance on simple, repetitive phrasing. To improve, focus on learning collocations and ensuring correct spelling of common academic terms, and try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to the specific topic of the prompt.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('a sense of responsibility will instil in them'), punctuation (missing commas and run-on sentences), and awkward phrasing ('more experienced then them'). There is a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent, which occasionally makes the meaning difficult to follow. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Proofreading for basic punctuation errors would also significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
