Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, people are very interested to visit popular places to take pictures instead of searching about the area. I think it is a negative trend that is rising everywhere. In the coming paragraphs, I would talk about the reasons of this trend with examples.

To start with, social media is very popular among youngsters these days. It is very easy to find a person on the websites like Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat and Tiktok. Whenever a person goes to some tourist place, they take pictures of the surrounding and post it on social media among friends. Sometimes, when an Account is public, the pictures can seen by anyone. Most of the youth like to visit instagramable place, where they can take alot of photographs, Instead of knowing about the importance of place.

Secondly, there are many public celebrities and influencers that go to popular places and folks also like to try that place without knowing about the area and history of the place. For example, recently Virat Kohli, famous cricketer visited the town in Manali and after knowing this people also started going to that place because it became popular.

Lastly, people are more interested in show off rather than enjoyment of a particular moment. They want to make other people jealous for there happiness. It has become a trend to do the things which are done by popular people whether it is about visiting somewhere or eating healthy. It is a negative trend that has started recently, if not stopped, people have to face the repercussions of this scenario.

There are benefits of visiting popular places but has more negative points if people only visit for popularity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention social media and celebrity influence, the arguments could be extended with more depth or specific analysis of the psychological impact. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and lacks a summary of the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph fully explores the 'why' behind the trend rather than just listing examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'To start with', 'Secondly', and 'Lastly' to signal transitions. However, the use of these devices is somewhat mechanical. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'the pictures can seen by anyone', where the connection to the previous clause is slightly awkward. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that sentences within paragraphs flow more naturally into one another.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You use common terms like 'popular', 'visit', and 'pictures' repeatedly. There are some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'searching about the area' (should be 'researching') and 'instagramable place' (should be 'Instagrammable'). While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited to basic, everyday language. Incorporating more sophisticated synonyms and topic-specific collocations would significantly enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader, such as 'the pictures can seen' (missing 'be'), 'there happiness' (should be 'their'), and 'folks also like to try that place' (inappropriate register). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors with capitalization and comma usage. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice, and proofread carefully to catch simple spelling or homophone errors like 'there' versus 'their'.
