Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is increasingly common these days that a massive amount of people are travelling throughout the world for the purpose of photography, before even having the proper glance of the place. It is taking place due to various social media trends. I believe it is causing a negative impact on the environment mainly causing deforestation as people need accommodation and other facilities.
Various famous influencers travel different places and post pictures on Instagram. People get motivated and wants to enjoy the same experience. As a result people are spending large sum of money on tourism nowadays. However sometimes this experience is not same as they think. They often face difficulties and end up loosing lots of money.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 117 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is severely restricted. While the essay identifies social media as a cause and expresses a negative view, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack the necessary depth and supporting examples required for a higher band. The connection between photography and deforestation is asserted but not logically explained or supported. To improve, you must expand on your points with specific examples and ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed in detail.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into two short paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'However' and 'As a result', but the overall flow is disjointed. The transition between the cause (social media) and the effect (deforestation) is abrupt and lacks logical cohesion. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph contains a clear topic sentence followed by supporting details that logically connect to the main argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally functional but basic. Phrases like 'massive amount of people' and 'proper glance' are somewhat unnatural. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'loosing' instead of 'losing'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations, and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms to ensure your writing is more sophisticated and accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are noticeable grammatical errors. For example, 'people... wants to enjoy' shows a subject-verb agreement error, and 'travel different places' is missing a preposition. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall quality. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and proofreading for minor slips to ensure your sentences are grammatically sound.
