Student answer (Band 6.5)

These days, the only reason why numerous people visit famous places is to take pictures of themselves, and fail to understand and experience the true beauty of the place. This essay will discuss about the reasons for this negative trend.

The primary reason behind is that, social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Tiktok are keep feeding posts to viewers about how a rich person's life look like, by just posting some pictures with different famous places, this forces to its viewers to do the same. To understand, many people try to post their pictures taken at famous places, learnt from celebrities , on social media platforms to look rich and superior among their friends and relatives. For example, my sister only visit a famous place to take a picture of herself and the background includes the well-known place.

I believe this is completely negative trend, critics may say that taking pictures of themselves at popular places help people to preserve good movements, but in reality, not experiencing the true beauty of the places is total waste of time and money. To understand, most tourist places are expensive, and time-consuming to visit, so as viewers we need to make sure we enjoy and respect the beauty of the places, whereas numerous people in a race to take pictures of themselves to glorify their social media profiles.

To conclude, although people are only travel to places to take their own pictures, we need to make sure to enjoy, experience and appreciate the beauty of places.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention social media pressure as a reason, the explanation could be more deeply explored with more sophisticated reasoning. The example regarding your sister is relevant but brief. To improve, ensure that your supporting arguments are fully extended with more detailed analysis or broader societal implications to reach a higher band level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'The primary reason behind is that' and 'To conclude', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'To understand' used twice to introduce explanations. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from your personal opinion. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother and less repetitive.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'social media platforms', 'glorify', and 'superior'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'are keep feeding' (should be 'keep feeding') and 'good movements' (likely meant 'good moments'). The range is sufficient but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Focusing on more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'the only reason why numerous people visit... is to take pictures' (subject-verb agreement/structure), 'this forces to its viewers' (incorrect preposition), and 'although people are only travel' (incorrect verb form). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency.
