Student answer (Band 6.5)

In recent years the numbers of tourists have increased compared to last 10 years. People travel around the world and post pictures on social media apps and influence others to travel. In this essay, I am going to discuss how individuals visit tourist attraction and instead of admiring the sculptures, the art and learn the history, they just take photos of themselves.

To begin with, nowadays people believe that social media is their main purpose and a way to become well known. For example, people create travelling channels on YouTube and post vlogs about historical places. Instead of influencing their followers to get to know the place history and why its well-known, they talk about random things going around the environment.

Moreover, they just take picture to show off them to their friends, family and followers which makes them to forget about living in the moment, enjoying the view, location and admire the art work that is done on the buildings. For instance, there are numerous people who visit pyramids, they take images and move to next location. no one tries to question the fact that the sculpture was created decades ago when there wasn't any mechanical support or technology that would help them design the building structure using apps.

Taking everything into account, I personally believe that its a negative trend of sticking to our screens when travelling. We should take some time to inquiry about the place, learn about the creation, history and who created these amazing palaces.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction and maintained throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why people take photos is repetitive, focusing mainly on 'showing off' and 'social media'. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the psychological or cultural drivers behind this behavior, such as the 'fear of missing out' or the shift in how we document memories, rather than just stating that people want to be well-known.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Taking everything into account', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is a bit abrupt. For example, the transition from discussing social media to the pyramids example could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be more sophisticated to achieve a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on common phrases like 'well-known places', 'take photos', and 'random things'. While these communicate your meaning effectively, they do not demonstrate a wide range of vocabulary. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'inquiry about the place' (should be 'inquire') and 'palaces' (which may not be the most accurate term for all historical sites). To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations and less common lexical items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'the numbers of tourists have increased compared to last 10 years' (missing 'the'), 'the place history' (should be 'the place's history'), and 'take picture' (should be 'take pictures'). Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage. While these errors do not prevent understanding, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would significantly improve your writing.
