Student answer (Band 7.0)

It is an irrefutable fact that in this unprecedented era, a significant number of people explore renowned landmarks just to capture pictures of themselves while neglecting the actual beauty. There are several reasons behind this trend, which cause detrimental effects on society. This essay will analyze my view with relevant examples in the ensuing paragraphs.

To commence with, discussing the causes of gathering virtual data in mobile phones rather enjoying the real beauty of places, the first and foremost reason is to follow recent trend of social media. To illustrate further, people might like to upload the pictures on social media apps such as Instagram, Facebook and What's up. This often reveals personality, wealth, personal life happenings and possessions of a person. Furthermore, many folks love to capture precious moments which they are enjoying. Which they can remember forever in their lives. To exemplify, one study conducted by the 'Recreational Research Group' in India has shown about a 70% of people choose to take photographs over getting the free guide tour to cherish some memorable life events.

Moving ahead, according to my perspective, this genre posses negative impacts. This is because individuals often ignore the significance of certain places. When they visit well-known areas, they get opportunities to explore new culture, traditions, and history. But over all of these they choose to click photos rather admiring the beauty. Moreover, they should relax themselves mentally and physically while staying away from the hectic schedule of daily routine by accepting this golden chance.

In essence, it is undeniable that persons often get engaged with photography during tourism and ignore the existence of such venues to gather the memories and follow the latest trend; however, it could give undesirable results such as letting go opportunities of exploring historical, cultural and natural importance of famous places.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why people take photos is clear, but the discussion on the negative impacts could be more deeply explored with more specific examples beyond general statements about 'culture and history'. The mention of the 'Recreational Research Group' is a good attempt to provide evidence, though it feels slightly forced. To reach a higher band, ensure that the implications of the trend are discussed with more depth and nuance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'To illustrate further', and 'In essence', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'Moving ahead, according to my perspective, this genre posses negative impacts'. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some sentence structures are fragmented, such as 'Which they can remember forever in their lives', which disrupts the flow. Improving the variety and naturalness of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'irrefutable fact', 'unprecedented era', and 'detrimental effects'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'gathering virtual data in mobile phones' (instead of 'storing digital images') and 'this genre posses' (should be 'this trend possesses'). The phrase 'What's up' is informal and inappropriate for an academic essay. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, more precise collocations and a more formal tone would improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as '70% of people choose to take photographs over getting the free guide tour' (should be 'rather than taking a guided tour') and 'relax themselves mentally' (should be 'relax mentally'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with sentence fragments and subject-verb agreement. While the errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for minor errors would be beneficial.
