Student answer (Band 7.0)

Currently, people like to click photos and selfies at every place they visit. Many individuals' main focus is on photography rather than looking at the view and enjoying it. There are two reasons: one is showing them to others on social media and capturing the moment as a memory for the future. However, it has an enormous negative impact compared to its benefits.

Nowadays, people choose to post their lives on the internet without being concerned about their privacy. Individuals click photos of various places that they visit to showcase them in family groups and uploading it on different social media apps for shares and likes. Consequently, people get lost in the digital world and forget to enjoy the present moment they are having at a special place. Furthermore, the purpose of clicking photos was always to capture a memory of a specific moment or occasion, which fades over time. For Instance, tourists visiting the mountains are busy clicking photos rather than enjoying the view with their eyes.

As a result, clicking photographs has become a habit that leads to negative effects on society and the human mind. Firstly, people refuse to watch the scenery live; they only watch through their smartphones' cameras. Secondly, visiting places on the internet is not always true; many people get influenced by seeing these pictures, develop a will to visit that place without considering their budget, just to post the same photos. Hence, this trend is leading the public in the wrong direction.

In conclusion, although photos keep our memories alive, clicking too many pictures and not living in the present moment have several drawbacks that are disrupting our community and emotions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention social media and memory as reasons, the explanation of the 'negative impact' could be more deeply explored. For instance, the point about people visiting places just to post photos is a strong observation, but it could be supported with more specific detail or a clearer link to the 'negative' aspect. Overall, the response is relevant and covers all requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the evaluation. Cohesive devices such as 'Consequently', 'Furthermore', and 'As a result' are used to guide the reader through your arguments. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences could be better linked to improve the overall progression of ideas. You have successfully maintained a coherent structure throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'showcase', 'disrupting', and 'digital world' effectively. There are some instances where word choice could be more precise, such as 'watch the scenery live' (better: 'experience the scenery firsthand') or 'visiting places on the internet is not always true' (better: 'the portrayal of places online is not always accurate'). While there are no significant errors that impede communication, the range is somewhat limited, and you rely on some repetitive phrasing. Incorporating more sophisticated collocations would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'uploading it on different social media apps' (should be 'uploading them') and 'many people get influenced by seeing these pictures, develop a will to visit' (which lacks a conjunction or punctuation to connect the clauses). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor slips in sentence construction. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout, and the grammar does not significantly hinder the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of relative clauses.
