Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout, and the ideas are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the second paragraph where the focus on social media validation is stretched thin. While the essay covers all requirements, the analysis could be more nuanced. For instance, the discussion of 'negative development' is well-supported by examples of safety risks and crowd congestion, which helps to balance the response effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'However', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed due to grammatical errors. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'infrastructure hazards', 'social media validation', and 'digital proof'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and minor word-choice errors, such as 'prove wealthy' instead of 'prove wealth' and 'introduce people about their recent adventure'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('photos plays', 'it will helps'), incorrect pronoun usage ('there social media' instead of 'their'), and awkward sentence construction. While the meaning is generally clear, these errors are persistent throughout the text. The writer demonstrates an attempt at complex structures, but the control over these is inconsistent, which limits the score in this criterion.
