Student answer (Band 6.5)

Travel and tourism have become popular among people these days. Individuals like to explore different spots and get their photo clicked there. This trend of taking photographs have decreased people's interest in looking at the place and getting to know about it. Is this a concern and what's the reason behind it?

Capturing photos help in preserving the memory of that particular time. Social media is the second main reason. Especially youth, loves to click and upload there photo while visiting popular destinations. In a survey conducted by University of George in Jurassic park, only 55% of people who visited the location took out some time to read about the history and heritage of the place. Rest were concentrating on getting a perfect a click.

By visiting well-known places for any reason, is boosting tourism for that place and creating employment opportunities for the people living there. Consequently improving the economy. By making videos and clicking photos while visiting and later on sharing it on social platforms, can attract other visitors.

But on the contrary, main motive of visiting those places gets ignored or gets less prioritized. Individuals are not gaining any knowledge.

From my opinion, admittedly it has both positive and negative effects. People must concentrate on exploring the location, the reasons or the history behind it, get to know about new culture and heritage, rather than just spending time on capturing the moment. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and whether it is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention social media and memory preservation as reasons, the explanation remains brief. The discussion on the positive and negative aspects is present, but the conclusion is cut off, which prevents a fully developed final position. To reach a higher band, ensure each paragraph provides more depth, perhaps by discussing the psychological impact of 'performative' travel versus genuine engagement. The inclusion of a specific example is good, but ensure the analysis of that example is more thoroughly integrated into your argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For instance, the transition 'By visiting... By making...' is a bit formulaic. The logical flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, the abrupt ending of the essay significantly impacts the overall coherence, as the final thought is left incomplete. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph transitions logically into the next, maintaining a consistent argument throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'heritage', 'analytical skills', and 'employment opportunities'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'get their photo clicked' (which is informal/non-standard) and 'there photo' (a spelling error for 'their'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and ensure you are using the correct forms of words (e.g., 'their' vs 'there'). Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary related to tourism and social behavior would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('This trend... have decreased'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing ('From my opinion' should be 'In my opinion'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Attempting more complex sentence structures is good, but ensure they are grammatically accurate. Proofreading for basic errors like 'there' vs 'their' will also help improve your score.
