Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent times, an increasing number of individuals visit popular places to capture themselves on camera without viewing the environment. I believe this is a negative trend why this is occuring.
There is no doubt that taking photographs without looking at the place can lead to being sued for trespassing by the property owner. Some restaurants and fast-food outlets have a "no picture policy" in place so that if there is a negative review on their meals and drinks, they won't be evidence to allocate it to their organisation. For example, I visited a hotel in Abuja and was not allowed to take pictures but I was not informed. Unfortunately, I was caught and asked to pay the sum of 70,000naira by the Court of Justice, Abuja.
I believe that this is a negative trend because it could lead to being assaulted and abducted especially in a secluded place. For instance, my sister was assaulted and asked to leave the Orange cinema because she was capturing a scene of the movie that is still ongoing. In addition, there has been ongoing theft of phones and gadget at gunpoint. Also, young adults are skilled at using the internet and social media especially for photos and videos which could lead to distractions at work or schools.
In Conclusion, the growing number of people that photograph themselves without background inspection is mainly due to lack of awareness. Overall, I consider this trend a negative trend because it encourages assaults, theft at gunpoints, lawsuit, and abductions

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons and stating a clear position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat illogical. The arguments provided—such as being sued for 70,000 naira for taking a photo or being abducted for taking a selfie—are extreme and not directly related to the core issue of 'not looking at the place' while taking photos. The essay focuses more on the consequences of photography in general rather than the specific phenomenon of prioritizing selfies over experiencing the environment. To improve, ensure that your arguments directly support the prompt's premise rather than introducing unrelated scenarios.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt to use cohesive devices like 'In addition' and 'For instance'. However, the logical progression is weak. The transition between the idea of 'not looking at the place' and the subsequent claims about lawsuits and abductions is disjointed. The conclusion is also slightly repetitive, merely listing the points mentioned earlier without synthesizing them. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that directly links back to the main prompt, and use cohesive devices to show the relationship between your ideas more clearly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are some awkward collocations, such as 'background inspection' and 'theft at gunpoints'. While the meaning is generally clear, the word choice is often simplistic or slightly unnatural in context. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'mindfulness', 'superficiality', or 'digital documentation', and ensure that your collocations are accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'why this is occuring' (which is a fragment), 'there won't be evidence to allocate it to their organisation' (incorrect word choice), and 'theft of phones and gadget' (pluralization error). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the flow of the text. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, pluralization, and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately.
