Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this modern era, people are very self obsessed and they always try to take pictures of themselves at every places without knowing and looking the beauty of the places. There are many reasons of this trend going on right now. I will conclude in the further paragraphs whether this trend is positive or negative.

First and foremost reason is that, masses are very addicted to the social media due to that whenever they visit popular places they starts to click photos of themselves to post on social media to update their followers. For example, In India, there is well-known place called Taj Mahal and thousands of people visit every year and most of the people not looking these places properly and just click some photos of them with that place and post on social platforms and not enjoying the place they visit.

The second reasons is that, most of the people do not have much time to exploring the places which they visit, so they take photos of them with that place for memory. Also, people are lazy and they do not like to give effort to know this places. For instance, In India, there is famous place called Kashmir which is very beautiful and that place fill with mountains and water falls, but people visit this place for good photographs and not even knowing these place of beauty of nature.

I strongly agree that, this is a negative trend going on nowadays of taking pictures of themselves when they visit a famous places as a tourist.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why this is happening and whether it is a positive or negative trend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide examples like the Taj Mahal and Kashmir, the explanation of 'why' relies heavily on generalisations about people being 'addicted' or 'lazy'. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the underlying psychological or societal drivers, such as the 'fear of missing out' (FOMO) or the validation-seeking nature of modern digital culture. Your position is clear, but the conclusion is brief and lacks a summary of the main points discussed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices like 'First and foremost', 'The second reasons', and 'Also'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the logical progression is hindered by grammatical errors. For example, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive, which limits the sophistication of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on common words like 'people', 'places', and 'good'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'masses are very addicted to the social media' (should be 'addicted to social media') and 'give effort to know this places' (should be 'make an effort to appreciate these places'). To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to tourism, digital culture, and human behaviour.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('people... starts to click'), article usage ('the beauty of the places'), and pluralisation ('this places'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors prevent the text from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for basic errors such as verb tense consistency and the correct use of prepositions.
