Student answer (Band 6.0)
Travelling around the world has been significantly increased throughout the time where in today's generation, most people focus on capturing pictures of themselves with the tourist places and not even realizing where they are. This essay will highlight some reasons for this trend and explains why it is a pessimistic development.
One of the most prominent reasons is following social media trends. In other words, people love to post online and wants to just show the world that they visited the particular place without even knowing the historical richness of the place. Besides this, individuals click pictures of themselves or with friends or family because they like to keep the memories in their technological gadgets and would imagine the same moment in future and it can used while people have conflicts between each other. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 175 words long. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay introduces the topic and mentions reasons for the trend, the discussion is incomplete and ends abruptly mid-sentence. The second body paragraph is underdeveloped, and the conclusion is entirely missing. To improve, you must ensure you fully address both parts of the prompt (reasons and opinion) with sufficient supporting evidence and examples, and you must complete the essay structure to ensure all ideas are fully explored and concluded.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay shows some attempt at logical organization, using transition signals like 'One of the most prominent reasons' and 'Besides this'. However, the abrupt ending of the text severely disrupts the flow and coherence of the overall argument. Paragraphing is present, but the lack of a conclusion and the incomplete final sentence make the progression of ideas unclear. To achieve a higher score, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that the essay follows a logical structure from introduction to a well-developed conclusion, using a wider range of cohesive devices to link ideas more smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. Phrases like 'technological gadgets' and 'historical richness' are relevant, but there is a reliance on simpler language. Some word choices are slightly awkward, such as 'reuniting the relationship' and 'pessimistic development' (where 'negative' would be more natural). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider variety of topic-specific vocabulary related to tourism and social behavior. Avoid repetitive phrasing and try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms to express your ideas more clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'Travelling around the world has been significantly increased' is passive and awkward, and 'it can used while people have conflicts' contains a missing auxiliary verb. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles, incorrect verb forms, and punctuation. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help raise your score in this criterion.
