Student answer (Band 7.0)

Nowadays more and more people are visiting popular places in order to take photographs of themselves rather than looking at the place. This is because people currently are influenced by social media and following trend of being popular. Although it has some benefits, but I believe that it is a negative development.

The main reason for this trend is to be a popular person, liked and viewed by many adults, on social media such as Tik-Tok and Instagram. Because those platforms could be a source of income for them, and help them to earn a passive income while focusing on professional career. Therefore, majority of youngsters are focusing on clicking pictures from various angels which can be uploaded on Instagram and Snap chat, and viewed and shared by many youngsters. Due to that trend visitor often skip to explore well-known places. Despite having benefits of being popular and earning money, it is a negative development because people often choose travelling so they can relax from their daily routine life and work. Hence, clicking pictures without looking at place they are visiting may impact their peace. This is because clicking pictures and modify them require a lot of time and efforts, and not getting enough views and likes can make them disappointed. Thus, focusing and exploring place without following negative trend help them to increase their knowledge about the place, popularity and geography about it. Ultimately, staying away from devices may provide them more happiness.

In conclusion, in order to earn an extra money youngsters sometimes forgot to focus on the place they are visiting. However, it requires a lot of efforts to amend that and upload on social media, therefore, staying away from devices while exploring new places will be the best option to freshen up their mind from daroutine activity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and your opinion on whether it is positive or negative. Your position is clear from the introduction and maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant, such as the influence of social media and the desire for passive income. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the discussion on the negative impact on 'peace' could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. Overall, you have provided a solid response that covers all requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'Despite', and 'In conclusion' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the benefits of social media and the negative impact on travel could be more sophisticated. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'passive income', 'daily routine', and 'geography'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'clicking pictures from various angels' (should be 'angles') and 'amend that' (should be 'edit' or 'process'). While you attempt to use more specific vocabulary, some phrasing remains slightly repetitive or simplistic. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding informal phrasing to enhance the academic tone of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'following trend of being popular' (missing an article), 'visitor often skip' (subject-verb agreement), and 'earning an extra money' (incorrect article usage). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings that slightly impede the flow. To reach a higher band, focus on improving your control over articles, subject-verb agreement, and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater accuracy.
