Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks about people visiting well-known places to take photographs without looking at the location, whereas the essay discusses the dangers of smoking. Because the student failed to address the task prompt entirely, the response cannot be assessed for task achievement regarding the specific question asked. In an official IELTS examination, this would be treated as a memorized or irrelevant response, leading to a very low score for Task Response. To improve, it is essential to read the prompt carefully and ensure that the content directly answers the specific questions posed in the task instructions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which provides a basic structure. However, the logical progression is hindered by the fact that the content is irrelevant to the prompt. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover', 'Thus', and 'Additionally', but they are often used mechanically. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between ideas is simplistic. To improve, the student should focus on developing a clear central argument that directly relates to the topic and using a wider variety of cohesive devices to link ideas more naturally and effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. The student uses basic terms like 'hazardous habit', 'major disease', and 'rules and regulations'. There are several word-choice errors, such as 'smoking things' and 'vanish this problem from roots', which sound unnatural. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas or demonstrate precision. To achieve a higher band score, the student needs to expand their vocabulary to include more academic and topic-specific collocations and ensure that words are used in their correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The grammar contains frequent errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'Smoking is an hazardous habit that cause serious problems' (subject-verb agreement error), 'I am completely agree' (incorrect verb form), and 'Government should banned this' (incorrect modal structure). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences, and those that are attempted often contain errors. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. To improve, the student should focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, modal verb usage, and sentence construction.
