Student answer (Band 6.5)
Photograph is considered a memory, looking back at a picture can bring back old memories and moments lived. In recent years, visit popular places to take picutures of themselves has became a trend. Rather than researching and understanding about the place/location, people nowadays are more focused about thier selfies and photos. There are number of reasons towards this shift, In this essay we will discuss the reason behind this trend.
Firsty, social media plays an important role, teenagers are leaned towards posting almost everything on the internet. Showing off an outfit and location has became a trend. For example, young social media influencers advertise a place and it goes viral on social media. Therefore, to get more like on their pictures, people usually try to visit same place rather than learning about place its history and architecture. Furtheremore, People are more invested in getting more reach, on their Instagram post. It is often said "doing it for the gram".
Secondly, televison and movies plays very crucial role in influencing people to visit well-known places. For example, after watching TV show Emily in Paris, people from all around the world visited Paris and the tourism boosted. However, due to sudden increase Paris could not accomodate so many people and had to put restriction on issuing touris visas. Therefore, it has a negative effect if people only goes to well-known place.
To conclude, visiting places after doing some research is important rather than following a trend. Going to new palces to enjoy and make memory instead of just going for just pictues. In my opionion its a negative trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the writer's opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, such as the influence of social media and popular culture. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the discussion on 'Emily in Paris' is a good example, but the link between tourism restrictions and the negative nature of the trend could be more deeply explored. The position is clear throughout the essay, although the conclusion is brief and could have better summarised the main arguments to provide a more comprehensive final thought.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firsty', 'Furtheremore', and 'To conclude', though some of these are misspelled or used in a slightly mechanical way. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph could be smoother. Referencing is mostly clear, though some sentences feel slightly disjointed due to punctuation errors, such as the comma splice in the introduction ('...shift, In this essay...'). Overall, the structure is sufficient to guide the reader through the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific language like 'social media influencers', 'viral', and 'architecture'. However, there are several spelling errors ('picutures', 'thier', 'Firsty', 'Furtheremore', 'televison', 'palces', 'opionion') and minor collocation issues ('visit popular places to take picutures' instead of 'visiting popular places'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of vocabulary to achieve a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('televison and movies plays', 'people only goes') and article usage ('the same place', 'a negative effect'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and comma splices. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the frequency of these errors is noticeable. To improve, the writer should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects, as well as refining the use of articles and prepositions.
