Student answer (Band 6.5)

In recent years, individuals has started visiting famous tourist places more often than before. While visiting, they prefer to capture themself in the photos rather than enjoying the beauty or attraction of the place. This is a negative approach and has many reasons to back it up.

With the evolvement of technology, the lives of people has also been changed drastically. This trend is driven by social media. Most people visit the famous tourist places so that they can upload a picture of them visiting the renowned place to show to their followers. They actually do not visit the place because of the actual reason behind its popularity. However, they want to satiate the hunger rising inside them to maintain a social status.

This is a negative trend as when people visit a well-known place for the sake of visiting and does not respect its boundaries, it diminishes the popularity and its reputation among other people. For instance, majority of influencers showing same country or a famous place on their social media profiles, it gives a message to the society that this particular place is not a very special place now instead its just another common public space. As a result, other people avoid going to those places.

In the conclusion, visiting the well-known places and taking selfies is not a bad idea in general, but if it is only revolves around the social status, it surely lacks value, and respect of the place.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying social media as the primary driver and arguing that the trend is negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited, and the essay falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the overall task achievement. While the position is clear, the arguments could be more thoroughly extended with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not fully synthesize the points made in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In recent years,' 'With the evolvement of,' and 'As a result,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the final paragraph is underdeveloped, which affects the overall coherence of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at more sophisticated language, such as 'satiate the hunger' and 'diminishes the popularity,' though some collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'evolvement of technology' (better: 'advancement of technology'). The range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement, such as 'individuals has started' (should be 'have') and 'lives of people has also been changed' (should be 'have'). Additionally, there are minor errors in article usage and phrasing, such as 'showing same country' (should be 'showing the same country'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not significantly impede communication.
