Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays many people go to famous places only for take photos. They do not see the place carefully. They take selfie and put pictures on social media. I think this is happening because many people want likes and show other people they visit famous places.

In my opinion, this is a negative trend. People spend more time with mobile phone and less time enjoying the place. They do not learn about history or culture. They only take many photos and leave. Sometimes they make crowd and disturb other visitors.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 89 words long. Consequently, the ideas are significantly underdeveloped. While the response addresses both parts of the prompt—explaining the reasons for the trend and expressing an opinion on whether it is positive or negative—the lack of depth and supporting evidence means the task is only partially addressed. To improve, you must expand on your points with specific examples, personal experiences, or broader societal analysis to reach the required length and provide a more comprehensive argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is divided into two short paragraphs, which provides a basic structure. However, the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. Cohesive devices are largely absent, and the sentences are simple and repetitive in structure. To achieve a higher score, you need to use a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') to connect your ideas more fluidly and improve the overall logical flow of your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'people', 'famous places', and 'take photos'. There is little attempt to use less common or more precise vocabulary. To improve, you should aim to incorporate topic-specific collocations and synonyms to demonstrate a wider range. For instance, instead of 'take photos', you could use 'capture images' or 'document their travels'. Expanding your vocabulary will help you express your ideas with more precision and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response relies almost exclusively on simple sentence structures. There are noticeable grammatical errors, such as 'only for take photos' (should be 'only to take photos') and 'make crowd' (should be 'create a crowd'). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of complex sentence structures and the presence of basic errors limit the score. To improve, focus on using a mix of complex and compound sentences and pay closer attention to verb forms and article usage.
