Student answer (Band 6.5)

Taking photos is becoming a popular trend now a days. There are many reasons why individuals take their own photographs rather than enjoying the place they visited. However, i believe this is a negative trend and my arguments along with the reasons are discussed in the forthcoming paragraphs.

There are myraids of advantage of taking photographs by visiting such places. Firstly, many people think that by taking a photographs they should build a good memories which they can recall with their friends and family members after visiting to their place. Secondly, now a days social media are becoming so much trending that they think they should posted their own photograps with the scenic view on socia media like instagram, facebook, twitters and whats app so their friends can see their enjoyement. To exemplify, a recent survey from Times of India that 80- 90 percentage of people who spent their holidays with thier near and dear one post their photos on online platforms.

However, i believe it is a negative trend this is because when people visit the place they should see the beauty of the nature, feels the fresh air and try the food of their place rather than taking photographs. Besides that, they can aslo have a chance to know their culture and traditions by attending their local dancing show or by trying their local cultural food. For instance, in shimla many people are doing ecotourism by having a rides on the elephants to view the beauty of shimla rather than going thorugh their own cars and taking a photographs.

To sum up, there are many different reasons where many people choose photography to store their memories and for social media purposes, but i believe that feeling the beauty of nature and knowing their locals about their customs and their traditions have edge over the photography

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the writer's opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why people take photos is a bit repetitive, focusing heavily on social media. The second body paragraph attempts to contrast photography with 'experiencing' a place, but the example provided (elephants in Shimla) is slightly disconnected from the core argument about photography. To reach a higher band, the ideas need to be more fully extended with deeper analysis rather than just listing reasons.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'However', and 'To sum up'. However, some of these are used mechanically, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the social media point and the survey example. Referencing is generally clear, but the paragraphing could be improved by ensuring each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed main idea. The overall progression is logical, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several spelling errors ('myraids', 'aslo', 'thorugh', 'photograps') and some awkward phrasing, such as 'social media are becoming so much trending'. The range of vocabulary is limited to common words, and there is little attempt to use less common lexical items or idiomatic expressions. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring correct spelling of basic terms. The repetition of 'taking a photographs' and 'the place' also limits the score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('social media are becoming'), article usage ('the beauty of nature', 'a rides'), and pluralization ('a photographs'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would significantly improve the clarity of the writing.
