Student answer (Band 7.0)

Nowadays, plenty of individuals prefer to go on famous places just for taking pictures of themselves instead of observing the beauty of the place. It is happening due to social media influence and creating more and more memories with their near and dear ones. As per my perspective, it is a negative trend because it destroy their true experience and distraction for other tourists.

To commence with, in the modern era, people are becoming addicted of popularity on social media. To elaborate it, when people go to any popular place, they give more attention to click their pictures to post on social media rather watching beauty and culture of that place. They click pictures and post them on their social media accounts to get views and likes. For example, one of my friend, Ram, went Kashmir and he post plenty of beautiful pictures of the Kashmir and got thousands of likes and comments on them. As a result, he got drastic change in his social media growth and become popular.

Besides this, many inhabitants always want to capture memories with their family or friends. This is because they believe that pictures are the best way to recall trips' memories along with this, they can experience that days again through pictures. To instance, a survey was conducted by tourists department of India in 2019, this survey depicts that 90% individuals preferred to take pictures because they want to keep their memories for future. Thus, people feel happy and attached with their near dear ones even living far away from them through pictures.

Furthermore, visiting on a famous place just for pictures can ruin the real experience of the trip. The reason behind is that if people spend their whole time to just click pictures, they cannot explore the real beauty and culture of that place. To illustrate, a tourists guard claimed that people only came in Ram Mandir to take pictures, they did not have any knowledge about the history of this place and they did not hire us to give them a tour. Therefore, tourists guards become unable to earn money through guarded tours.

Moreover, other tourists are affected by this behavior. This happen because when other citizens become busy to take pictures then they sometimes block path of others as well as they distract them from the views. This can be seen at almost every tourists site all around the world. So, other people faced a lot of difficulties to travel among distractions.

To conclude, people taking picture to collect memories and posting them on social media to get views and likes. However, it put negative effects on the other tourists due to distracting them as well as, destroying real experience of a trip on well-known sites.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing reasons for the trend and a clear opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The position is consistent throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as social media influence and the desire to preserve memories, as well as the negative impacts on the tourist experience. However, some arguments could be more deeply developed; for instance, the example regarding the 'tourist guard' is slightly repetitive and could have been better integrated to strengthen the argument about the loss of cultural appreciation. Overall, the response is well-structured and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, such as social media addiction or the impact on other tourists. Cohesive devices like 'To commence with,' 'Besides this,' and 'Furthermore' are used to guide the reader through the arguments. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the phrasing 'visiting on a famous place,' which slightly disrupts the natural progression of ideas. Nevertheless, the paragraphing is appropriate and supports the overall coherence of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. There are attempts to use topic-specific language like 'social media influence,' 'inhabitants,' and 'drastic change.' However, there are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'go on famous places' instead of 'visit famous places,' 'addicted of popularity' instead of 'addicted to popularity,' and 'tourists guard' instead of 'tour guide.' While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word choice and common English collocations to reach a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is an attempt to use complex sentences, such as 'The reason behind is that if people spend their whole time to just click pictures, they cannot explore the real beauty.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('it destroy their true experience'), incorrect preposition usage ('visiting on a famous place'), and article errors ('a tourists guard'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the intended meaning. More attention to verb forms and sentence structure accuracy would improve the score.
