Student answer (Band 6.5)

Many people are visiting well-known places to take photographs of themselves, without looking at the place. In my opinion, it is a negative trend being developed. This essay will highlight the points to justify the trend being negative.

One such reason behind it is, increase in the usage of social media platforms. Teenagers and adults have a fascination of taking pictures and uploading. They want to get more comments and opinions of others on their captured photos. Sometimes, people even get more disappointed when they don't get more likes on the Posts they share. This ultimately hampers the actual motive of visiting good places. Rather than this, more emphasis should be put on getting details of the place being visited.

Moreover, this constant urge to get good pictures disturbs mental peace. There are several articles published by doctors suggesting anxiety and stress when a person doesn't get good pictures. These emotions have to be controlled and practised. Rather than only getting pictures, a proper visit to a specific site should be done and more knowledge should be gained for the place. Salient Features of the Place Being Visited should be known. Historical significance on the Place Should be Known. Things Like Geographical and Cultural Importance should also be learnt. The Constant Wish to get photos disrupts the sole purpose of the visit. The Main motive is to get mental peace and relaxation. Also more wisdom should be gained after each visits.

Due to this , i think this is a negative trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention social media and mental health, the arguments could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The conclusion is very brief and lacks a summary of the main points. To improve, ensure each body paragraph provides a fully developed argument rather than a list of points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'One such reason', but the flow is occasionally interrupted by repetitive sentence structures. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some transitions between sentences feel mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body, and conclusion. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that sentences within paragraphs are more tightly connected to each other.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and sophistication. You use some relevant terms like 'fascination', 'hampers', and 'significance', but there is a reliance on basic phrasing. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'practised' in the context of emotions, which is not the most natural choice. To achieve a higher score, aim to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and idiomatic expressions related to the topic of tourism and social media behavior, while ensuring they are used in the correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in punctuation and capitalization, such as the inconsistent use of capital letters in the middle of sentences (e.g., 'Salient Features of the Place'). There are also minor grammatical slips, such as 'after each visits' (should be 'visit') and 'Due to this , i think' (should be 'I'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and standard capitalization rules.
