Student answer (Band 6.0)

The discussion of taking pictures of themselves without looking at location is surely one that begs the question of exactly whether it is a good practice or otherwise. In my opinion, due to the social media attention, this has been common these days and I believe it is a positive trend as it has several advantages which will be discussed in this essay.

One clear fact is that nowadays people have become digital citizen. Take for instance, individuals capture themselves to upload on social media in order to get themselves validated. In addition, they do not care about the integrity and significance of the location.

Another reasons stems from the fact that significant rise of this trend has been observed, since the social media applications have started to contribute with money on specific reach of those uploads. Nonetheless, creators have stopped being mindful about the location where they are being captured. However, this has positive effects such as, more visibility to no so known localities, high employment chances, free advertisements and many more.

Admittedly, critics may argue that it has several disadvantages. For example, sometimes people without complete knowledge tend to spread misinformation about the locations, which is harmful and can lead towards bad reputation of that place and their individuals. However, this perspective is less convincing because the benefits like, free promotion and employment growth, outweighs its disadvantages.

To conclude, both sides presents strong arguments. However, considering the merits of getting photographed without knowing the location is way more than its demerits. My suggestion in this regard would be, Government should impose certain restrictions on such places which they don't want to be explored by individuals of the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend and providing a clear opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument that the trend is positive because of 'free advertisements' and 'employment growth' is mentioned but not sufficiently explained or supported with concrete examples. The essay tends to over-generalise, and the link between taking a photo without looking at a location and the resulting economic benefits is not logically established. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or deeper analysis of why this behavior is occurring and why you believe the positive aspects outweigh the negative ones.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Nonetheless', and 'To conclude' are used to connect ideas. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs feels abrupt. Additionally, some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as 'Another reasons stems from the fact that significant rise of this trend has been observed'. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that cohesive devices are used more naturally would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. You attempt to use some less common items like 'integrity', 'significance', and 'misinformation'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations, such as 'contribute with money on specific reach' and 'no so known localities'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your argument. To improve, focus on learning collocations—words that naturally go together—and ensure you are using vocabulary that fits the formal tone of an IELTS essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Another reasons stems', 'both sides presents') and article usage ('the significant rise', 'the Government'). Some sentences are also slightly ungrammatical, such as 'the benefits... outweighs its disadvantages'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your points, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and pluralization would significantly improve your score in this criterion.
