Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent time, it is majorly seen that many people are going to famous places to click pictures of themselves, without even much knowledge of the place. There are multiple reasons behind such trend, such as over influence of social media, collecting memory and more. This trend has both positive and negative effects on people life. In this essay, I will discuss the possible reasons behind this trend, along with the outcomes or impression it has on people's life.

To start with, the prominent reason behind the spread of this trend could be social media. To elaborate, having seen the ratio almost 8 out of 10 people are using social media, and they post multiple things on social media platforms including the photographs they take of themselves. Thus, in order to bring the attention of other people, they often choose to go on some well known places where they will may a chance to have famous places in background if they post images on Instagram or Facebook.

However, one should not over look the effect it has on people's life. To start with positive, due to this trend people may visit different places, and may get to know about different cultures. To explain, every place holds it's uniqueness, and it's unique culture, thus even if people visit these places for photographs, they may end up knowing different culture, city or maybe country.

To the other hand, they could face negative consequences. To describe, sometimes people visit famous places without even browsing about it. Sometimes they may not know what they will experience it there. For instance, many people plan their trip to Carrabin island because it is cheap, but they might not know they probably could not find suitable food for themselves if they are not comfortable eating sea food.

To wrap up, yes visiting familiar places for photograph is not bad. However, as far as I concerned, people should rather see the effects or outcomes it has, rather than following the trend blindly.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and whether it is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the explanation regarding social media is repetitive, and the argument about the 'positive' aspect of learning about culture is not well-supported, as the prompt specifically mentions people taking photos 'without looking at the place.' The example provided about the Caribbean island is slightly off-topic as it focuses on food preferences rather than the act of taking photos without engaging with the destination. To improve, ensure that each point directly addresses the core of the prompt with more depth and logical consistency.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To start with,' 'However,' and 'To wrap up,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'To the other hand' (should be 'On the other hand'). Referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure follows a standard essay format, which helps the reader follow the argument despite some minor lapses in cohesive flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'over influence' instead of 'excessive influence' and 'click pictures' instead of 'take photographs.' Phrases like 'bring the attention of other people' could be more naturally expressed as 'attract attention.' While the meaning is always clear, the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and there is little evidence of less common or idiomatic language. Expanding your repertoire of topic-specific vocabulary would significantly enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'In recent time' (should be 'In recent times'), 'people life' (should be 'people's lives'), and 'it's uniqueness' (should be 'its uniqueness'). Additionally, there are issues with verb tense and article usage, such as 'they will may a chance' and 'the Carrabin island.' While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct use of possessive apostrophes, and refining complex sentence constructions.
