Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, most of the people visit famous destinations to get photos regardless of the destination. While this trend offers certain advantages, I believe it even brings some drawbacks, making it both a positive and a negative development.

On the one hand, the businesses which are associated or nearby will get a certain growth because of the visitor. It can be seen as a positive development because there will be more opportunities of employment which could be a source to earn handsome amount of money for people who lives there. A perfect example of this is Kadi the golden city, which is quite popular these days due to influencers who made it famous on Instagram and Tik-tok. Moreover, it helps development of the area too because of increased numbers of tourists, the authority may have to develop basic improvements like roads, hotels and etc.

On the other hand, there are several negative consequences of this trend. Firstly, people became careless while taking photos and do not care about anything else. For instance, a report claims that last year more than 150 visitors died while trying to get a perfect picture of them selves. Secondly, the famous sites often get crowded not only on holidays but also on usuals days, which makes a visit less appealing. For example, a study shows that last year there was a huge decrease in number of visitors in downtown.

In conclusion, although employments and developments are higher, it also creates challenges like injuries or deaths and crates unnecessary waste. Therefore, I would consider this trend both positive and negative according to the present.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and whether it is positive or negative. You have provided a clear position and supported your arguments with examples, such as the mention of influencers and the safety risks associated with photography. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why people visit places without looking at them could be more deeply explored beyond just the influence of social media. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points are fully expanded to demonstrate a more nuanced understanding of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'Firstly' to guide the reader through your arguments. However, the transition between ideas is sometimes a bit mechanical. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the slightly abrupt transition in the second paragraph regarding the development of infrastructure. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a strong, unified focus will help improve the overall coherence and cohesion of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'destinations', 'influencers', and 'consequences'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'handsome amount of money' (which is informal) and 'usuals days' (which is grammatically incorrect). You also repeat certain words like 'development' and 'positive/negative' frequently. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations, and ensure that your vocabulary is appropriate for a formal essay context. Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'people who lives there' (subject-verb agreement), 'them selves' (spelling), and 'crates unnecessary waste' (spelling/word choice). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors that occasionally interrupt the flow. To achieve a higher score, focus on eliminating these basic errors and attempt to use a wider variety of complex grammatical structures with greater accuracy, ensuring that your subject-verb agreement and spelling are consistently correct.
