Student answer (Band 5.5)

Social media becomes the essential part of everyone lives. People are sharing their personal and professional life on them especially the photographs of themselves where ever they go instead of the place .According to my opinion this will imposes a negative impact on society in a myraid of ways.

People of this generation believes in show off and wants to gain attention from the friends and family by posting their pictures on online platforms such as Instagram and Facebook rather than to enjoy the beauty of the location.

Additionally, some people wants to create a good image in the mindset of their followers by clicking their pictures on the regional places. For example, Celebrities are going to temples for the pictures so that people believes they are good human being.

Many people earn money from the pictures of their own that they are posting on their online platforms. For example, Virat Kohli, an Indian Cricketer earns a sufficient amount of money by posting just one picture of themselves on their social media.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 172 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the arguments remain superficial and lack the necessary depth and supporting detail required for a high score. While you identify reasons for the trend (social media validation and financial gain) and state a clear position, the under-length nature of the essay means the task is only partially addressed. To improve, you must expand your points with more detailed explanations and provide more comprehensive examples to fully explore the implications of this trend.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. For example, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs feels abrupt. While there is a logical progression of ideas, the lack of sufficient length prevents the development of a more sophisticated flow. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect sentences and ideas more naturally, ensuring that the transition between your arguments is smooth and logical.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'good image' and 'good human being'. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'in the mindset of their followers' (should be 'in the minds') and 'regional places' (which is unclear in this context). To improve, try to incorporate more precise, topic-specific vocabulary related to social media culture and human behaviour, and ensure that your word choices are natural and contextually appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('People of this generation believes', 'some people wants'), incorrect article usage, and awkward phrasing ('the essential part of everyone lives'). The sentence structures are relatively simple, and there is a lack of complex grammatical forms. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and pluralisation. Additionally, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences, while ensuring they are used accurately.
