IELTS Writing Task 2 question
More and more people nowadays visit well-known places to take photographs of themselves, without looking at the place.
Why do you think this is happening?
Is it a positive or a negative trend?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Most of the people these days are spending much of their time in visiting famous places and clicking photographs of themselves instead of the place they are visiting. I think this trend is the outcome of social media affects on our daily life. On Instagram and Facebook, we follow our favorite celebrities showing their trips to different locations. People want to copy their vogue. For me it is a mix trend with the combination of positive and negative impacts.
To begin with the positive side, it is good to spare some free time to enjoy beauty of one place or go through the religious values and history of the other. We always need a quality time to spend with our family and friends to regain energy and enthusiasm for the routine work. Taking pictures of sight seen also worthwhile to have sweet memories for future. But instead focusing on our personality, we should concentrate on the values of the place we are visiting. For instance, if we are going to see 'TAJ MAHAL' in Agra, our main intention should be to learn the wonders and history of that place and not just standing in front it to have family photo.
Moving to the negative side, spending too much money on outdoor trips can create financial crisis. It also gave birth to economic disparities in people. For example, middle class people find themselves in big trouble when they wanted to follow the trend of pre-wedding shoot at a hill station beyond the reach of their pocket. However, in order to satisfy prevailing trends, one can opt for a cheap or a free site such as an open field or a mud house.
To conclude, It can be said that visiting famous places is a great idea to refresh our body and brain but it should be worthwhile in actual life. Moreover, we should be concentrating on the views and sites rather than ourselves. Apart from this, we should spend wisely on these activities to avoid unwanted financial burden.
