Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this era of technology, individuals whenever they go to famous places, instead of watching the beauty of that place they just clicks pictures for posting them online. There are several reasons behind this, and I believe that it is negative trend.

In the 21st century, the rapid improvements in technology has led people to make their online social media account. It is rare that a person born in this century hasn't any social media account. For keeping their account updated and look more attention-seeking folks upload their photographs in those accounts. Even if they don't want to they have to because society demands it. For example, me and my friend, whenever we visit any place; he used to always clicks pictures of him and I always tells him "Stop it, just embrace the beauty of this place." and he says "It's for my parents." So, I just agree with him, but even so I don't like it.

I thing that this is affecting the society negatively, since individuals are only doing it for attention seeking. Moreover, influencers who mainly make vlogs are only doing it for content instead of actually going and enjoying the place. Nowadays, individuals only go to popular sites just to show their friends that they are enjoying and having fun even if the fun is fake and only for content and uploading their pictures. If a famous person went to a place and clicks some pictures over a particular site then folks who wants to look cool will also go that same spot and snaps photographs. For instance, in a popular Indian movie, there was a spot where the hero of the film drank tea in a tea stall, and now people go to that same stall and clicks pictures while drinking tea and tea stall owner charges them 500 rupees for the 50 rupees tea.

To recapitulate, due to the introduction of new technology, everyone has a smartphone and because of society they have to show individuals around them that they are enjoying. However, I believe that this is pushing our generation towards a negative trend since it will completely change the main purpose of our visits to popular sites from enjoying to just looking cool.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing reasons for the trend and a clear opinion that it is negative. The ideas are relevant, such as the influence of social media and the desire for social validation. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly the focus on 'attention-seeking' and 'content creation'. While the example of the Indian movie adds a nice touch of personal knowledge, the overall argument could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarises the main points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In this era of technology', 'Moreover', and 'To recapitulate', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'So, I just agree with him, but even so I don't like it.' Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother to avoid a choppy reading experience. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body, and conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific language like 'social media account', 'influencers', and 'vlogs'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler phrasing. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'look more attention-seeking folks' or 'clicks pictures'. To improve, the student should focus on more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary to convey their points with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'he used to always clicks', 'folks who wants to look cool', 'owner charges them') and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and misuse of commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring accuracy in basic grammar would significantly improve the score.
