Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent days, people have been enthusiastic to visit popular spots to take photographs of themselves, without looking at the place. This is happening because the trend of photography has increased drastically. I think that this is a positive trend because some people want to create amazing memories.

First of all, people capture photos of famous places because they want to upload them on social sites, such as Instagram and Twitter. Nowadays, people are more concerned with their social media profiles than with their health. In addition, they want to become prominent in the world, and they have a fantasy that people must be known about places where whom visited. For example, my friend Aman is a social influencer. He visits different places every weekend and takes a greater number of pictures of those places to update his social media account. So, people are very eager to update their social accounts with pictures of popular places and to encourage their followers to visit them. As a result, they earn money by liking photos.

On the positive side, individuals take pictures of famous places because they want to make wonderful memories. On top of that, people can remember the beautiful time spent with their family members by watching those pictures. Furthermore, people not only take pictures, but some people also make long, lovely vlogs in which they describe those places, including when those were built, who built those places, and also share the history of those places.

To conclude, even though people are not professional photographers, they take a lot of pictures of famous places to make remembrance memories and volg. Also, people want to influence their followers by uploading those pictures on social sites.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention social media influence and memory-making, the arguments lack depth. For instance, the claim that people earn money by 'liking photos' is unclear and not well-explained. Furthermore, the argument that this is a positive trend is not fully supported, as you do not address the counter-argument implied by the prompt—that people are failing to actually 'look at the place'. To improve, ensure each paragraph provides a more detailed explanation and a concrete example that directly supports your main point.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'In addition', 'On the positive side', and 'To conclude' to link your thoughts. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be more natural. Referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the connection between ideas is slightly abrupt, such as the transition between the social media argument and the financial aspect. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'social influencer' and 'vlogs'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'remembrance memories' (which is redundant) and 'people must be known about places where whom visited' (which is grammatically and lexically incorrect). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise vocabulary and idiomatic expressions, and avoid repeating basic words like 'people' and 'places' too frequently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'where whom visited' (incorrect relative clause), 'people must be known about' (incorrect passive construction), and 'volg' (spelling error). Additionally, there are minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on mastering complex sentence structures and proofreading for common errors in subject-verb agreement and word order.
