Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, it is becoming very popular to visit well-known places to take photographs. I think it is a negative trend because having too much information about a place can lead to wasting time and disappointment.

To begin with, why is this trend gaining popularity? Due to the increase in use of social media, this trend is gaining popularity. Most influencers go to various locations to shoot their content, reels and take photographs. After watching their reels and photos, our minds start craving to go to that place without taking more information about that place. However, the influencers show only a minimum amount of reality behind that place. Because they just shoot their reels and click on some beautiful spots. Also, they shoot with highly defined cameras, which hides the reality. After shooting with HD cameras, they edit their reels and photos with extreme filters, which just put a mask on reality.

In my opinion, it is a negative trend. From my experience i just faced last month. I went to Queen Elizabeth Park on my birthday last month in July. My friend and I watched 3-4 reels on Instagram about that park and made up our mind that we should go. Then, on the 22nd of July, we decided that we should go there. We just got ready and left the house towards the park after reaching there, we got too much disappointment. Actually, in reels we have seen colourful flowers and a garden full of roses. But actually, we saw there was fully disappointed. Then we decided we will never go anywhere in future without getting all the information about that.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the influence of social media is identified as a cause, the explanation is repetitive, focusing heavily on 'reels' and 'filters'. The personal example provided is relevant but lacks depth in terms of broader societal implications. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the psychological or cultural motivations behind this trend beyond just social media influence, and provide a more balanced analysis of why it is considered negative.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic progression of ideas from the introduction to the causes and then the personal example. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'To begin with', 'Also', 'Actually'). Some transitions between sentences are abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the connection between the disappointment and the conclusion could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring a more sophisticated flow between sentences would enhance the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'influencers', 'social media', and 'highly defined cameras'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler vocabulary. Phrases like 'put a mask on reality' are expressive, but there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'without taking more information' (should be 'without seeking more information') and 'we saw there was fully disappointed'. Expanding your range to include more precise collocations and academic vocabulary would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and word order (e.g., 'From my experience i just faced last month', 'we saw there was fully disappointed'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence construction that occasionally impede the flow. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring they are error-free will help you move into the higher band range.
