Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, individuals visit famous places just to take the photographs without showing any interest in the place. This is a negative trend. This essay will discuss the possible reason for this trend.

To commence with, there are plenty of reasons behind this happening. The primary reason is social media. In this technological era, people are addicted to social media. They cannot imagine their life without it because it is a source of income for majority of them. It is often seen that people visit renowned places just for content creation. They do not have any interest about the history of place. They prefer to take photos or videos and then post them on social apps like instagram, snapchat or you tube. For illustration, I have seen in my podcasts or interviews where content creators mentioned that their purpose of visiting well known places was just to take photos and post them on internet. As much as people view their story they earn money. To add to it, another reason is a hectic life. In this modern era, folks are too busy in their life. They don't have enough time to explore the place properly by taking interest in it. So, they just prefer to take photos to keep it as a memory.

It is a negative trend. People forget to appreciate the beauty of things. For instance, people visiting Eiffel Tower, always try to take a picture from best angle instead of appreciate the beauty it or the work of the architectures.

In conclusion, social media and hectic life are the main reasons of this trend. Although taking photographs is a natural thing but I believe along with taking phots or videos people should also take interest in the place itself.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the link between social media and content creation is well-explained, the second reason regarding a 'hectic life' is less convincing and lacks depth. The discussion on why it is a negative trend is also brief, relying on a single example of the Eiffel Tower. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the implications of this behavior, perhaps discussing the loss of cultural appreciation or the superficiality of modern travel experiences in more detail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'The primary reason', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be improved by using more varied linking phrases. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the evaluation of the trend, which helps the overall structure of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'content creation', 'renowned places', and 'technological era'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'taking interest in it' or 'taking phots'. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'appreciate the beauty it' (should be 'appreciate its beauty'). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and precise academic vocabulary to demonstrate a wider range of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('the history of place', 'on internet'), subject-verb agreement issues, and minor punctuation errors. For example, 'I have seen in my podcasts or interviews where content creators mentioned...' is a slightly awkward construction. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on article usage and refining complex sentence structures will help improve your accuracy and range.
